  1. The rack on the back is correct for team cars in the 60s and 70s. the idea was to retain quick access for when a rider has a mechanical.
  2. Update: I was not able to get the plastic sleeve to come out but the Teflon tape seems to be working, at least for the time being. It is snug and no longer spinning and spinning which was driving me crazy.
  3. As the title says the factory shifter knob on my 02 won't tighten any more. You can thread it on and off no problem just when you get to the end it "skips" Was thinking maybe some blue Locktight? I don't know
  4. Spotted on the webs today. The car in the center is reportedly the hot rod from American Graffiti. But everybody was talking about the 02. Har!
  5. I envy you for beinag able to figure that out at all
  6. The explanation apparently is that the "incident" happened in the 80s when the value of the car was quite low and so cars were totaled over relatively minor repairs. As a side note my 74 was headed to the same fate, salvage title, in the early 90s following a wreck on the 405 here in LA. But the owner at the time wrote an appeal to the insurance company with photocopies from Auto Trader and Hemmings illustrating that the car was worth more than the estimate. Which thankfully worked and I have a clean California title.
  7. Finally got around to popping the belt off to check the water pump. (What can I say I have been super busy, oh well) At any rate there is a tiny bit of play in the water pump bearing but it definitely is not binding. I have not driven the car much in the last month because I was concerned about said water pump and indeed one time I did drive it it was running kind of hot. Although yesterday I drove it for ten minutes or so with no over heating issues.
  8. Those look fantastic, I would definitely buy a set if the tires on my 02 weren't practically new and there are so many things that actually need fixing.
  9. That looks smashing, like they were original equipment.
  10. I am frankly surprised this vehicle has not sold. Seems like a pretty good deal.
  11. This is the oldest picture of my Granada red 1969 2002 taken when I was still in high school and was enrolled in a beginner's photography class. Nearly 40 years later I am now at the tail end of a career in news photography.
  12. The belt was indeed loose and I tightened it. The alternator bearing felt good and the bushings, while old, are in okay shape. However from what others have suggested the water pump may well be on its last legs as well. Drove the car about 10 miles, with some hills, and no more belt noise.
  13. Thank you for the lesson in how the alternator works. I am learning so much from the FAQ.
  14. This was very informative, thank you fro taking the time to write it all down. Steven
  15. Har! Yes Youtube with all of our fans around the world. But alas Grace and Steven time is dinner and conversation with my wife, seen in profile pic at left.
  16. As a side note the alternator is very near the end of the tensioning slider which I assume could indicate a worn belt.
  17. Sorry for the delay, this FAQ conversation ran into Grace and Steven time last evening which is sacred in these parts. So I had a look this morning and the belt did seem a bit loose. After a few tries it's better now and the belt itself does appear to be in good nick. No the Alt. light is not on. Everything under the hood is old, har! As far as the alternator being loose itself? it does move a bit but not a lot. I really wouldn't know what "normal" feels like.
