  1. Thanks. If I had a nickel for every time I updated something and find out it was better before.....
  2. Before I update mine, I'm just curious if anyone has run into issues with new update. New tabs and bugs sorted with curves is what they claim.
  3. Not much info yet, still installing. The Holley carb alone running a long tube header was an absolute jump ahead in power from both the 38/38 Weber and a pair of DCOE 40 Webers that I've had on there before. Haven't even had the secondaries open yet to see what really was lurking at that stage. Adapted Holley via a 2 to 4 barrel adapter. Just a little filing to get 2 barrel side of adapter to mate to intake manifold. Carb is turned 90° from original rod linkage and still sorting that. Had some issues of binding. Todays plan is to route intercooler piping and intercooler in the little upper slot forward of radiator. Weld down pipe and plasma cutting tomorrow evening. Anticipating my 15 gallon fuel cell will arrive Saturday.
  4. Holley 4150 700cfm double pumper modified for blow through application. Boost referenced and with adjustable power valve. 3/8" fuel supply via a Quick Fuel 115gph fuel pump 7-10psi and Quick Fuel Rising Rate fuel pressure regulator with boost reference/bypass adjustable to 4-9psi plus return line.
  5. Having sooooo much fun with my blow through turbo install. *sarcasm*
  6. No vandalism. 8mm screw not tightened and fell off. $600 mistake because it's a '71 grill.
  7. Cried because my grill got pulverized at a super busy intersection for about 24 hours.
  8. Any update? I'm awaiting my Tune + to arrive in the mail and hope I don't have any headaches.
  9. Trying to buy that exact one but can't find. 123ignitionsUSA has a wonky checkout and a guy on eBay has been slow to respond. Don't want the USB one, or the switchable, only the Tune + with Bluetooth.Best I've found is $530 and $555. Care to share where you got yours and how much? Already downloaded the 123 iPhone dashboard, heh.
  10. Waiting for a tow truck as I type this . All was great and then shutdown all of a sudden. Dumb design these wires.
  11. Today my jets, emulsion and correctors finally arrived. Ordered; 190 corrector F16 emulsion 120 main 50F8 idle Prior 170 corrector F15 emulsion 125 main 55F2 idle This is how I came up with the supposedly correct jetting (some random Weber site) With the prior jetting, I was getting maybe 4-6 miles per gallon, but it had big kahunas. Installed the ordered jetting and it runs smoother, economy probably 12-15 miles per gallon, but it's not quite the savage as with old jetting. Notice it starts leaning out @4500 rpm whereas the old jetting didn't struggle when you pushed to redline, in fact got there in quite a hurry. My question is which component should I change to maintain fuel economy, even 10 mpg is fine just as long as it has stab at upper rpm range. My thought maybe one step on main jet? Go back to F15? Or should I leave as be and turn the screws in some more?
  12. Yay, another week broke down while I wait for parts. Love this car soooooo much, but damn. Now I have to drive another one of my money pit projects and hope it doesn't decide to break down too, which they're quite fond of. I know, boooo, Mercedes.
  13. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=LY6kzhEcJ0o Good grief! I confirmed what happened to distributor cap. You'd think the bolt would be more deeply embedded into the rubber so this kind of thing wouldn't happen.
  14. My new driver side, well installed 4 months ago, just broke while on a left turn and accelerated like a scalded cat without warning and almost took out a row of cars. Bought said part at the BMW dealer here along with the passenger side lower one. I'd expect this out of Uro brand, but not real BMW parts. I've skimmed through other threads here in the past addressing chitty mounts, even the performance ones. I have no oil leaking on it for the record. Was so violent under hood, distributor cap was what I assume ripped off via probably smashed upward into firewall. Thankfully it looks as no damage and fired back up without any fuss.
  15. I didn't just spooge JB on the broken tab, lol. I drilled at a mean angle through the 2 broken pieces and with a tight fit put 2 stainless bolts through and then JB the two mating surfaces so seal airtight.
  16. Sorted, got it so close now and can adjust that side now, but feel I should go with f16's emulsion tube for it to be tits instead of the f15's in there now. We both extend a big Mahalo for your help.
  17. Found the problem. Epoxy made its way to the tiny hole that goes into throat by butterfly of said shade tree repair. Trying to clear it now.
  18. No change when I turn that fuel screw like the other 3. Spitting and backfiring out that mouth and exhaust on low circuit. Runs like a raped ape when you get past low rpm issues. One of the mounting eyes was broken off on this area and broke right along where fuel screw goes. I repaired with JB Weld and it held but this is the area that can't be dialed in. Pretty sure I didn't plug the passage. When I crank it out crazy amount of turns, it shoots a flash of flame. I've changed for obvious no reason after the fact the idle jets to 55f8 from a 55f2 and air corrector to 175 from a 200. Regulator set to 3.5.
  19. Throwing in the towel. One carb is untunable on one side of it. Gonna either try to find another old Weber DCOE2 or proceed finishing my parts round up on turbo setup. Have everything but still need to make the plenum and runners and order forged pistons to bring compression down. My question is can I put the normal intake with 38/38 Weber on and leave the sidedraft coolant bypass kit on and not connect original coolant lines to said manifold? Again live in a hot environment so choke is irrelevant mostly. Does the coolant inside play some sort of role in atomization or..?
  20. This is troubling in regards to the IE distributors as I bought one too but have not installed it yet. Curious query to OP... did you regap your plugs to .035" or so or left at points spark plug gap setting?
  21. Slave cylinder shat the bed when I jumped in the car after work this evening so been dealing with that. Waiting for friend to come by to bleed it out. Thankfully I anticipated this to happen and ordered months ago. Will try adjusting rear via linkage tonight if time allows.
  22. Sorry for the delayed response and appreciate all your suggestions. Was working off island. On my way to work here in about a half an hour but did tinker with early this morning, upgrading to 125 mains as suggested and when I went to install the mains into carb #2, I realized I had forgotten to tighten down all the jets under the round cover down. One idle jet was near falling out....duh, heh. Runs way better now, but still not right. To clarify my syncrometer readings, I now have on first carb, 5 and 5, rear carb 3 and 3. I will after work look at the throttle plate orientation through the screws with rubber o-rings. The VW shop here on Maui selection of jets and etc is hit and miss, with mostly all the ones I want out of stock. No 120 mains and have on hand a set of 4 of 175 air correctors. Will see how the 200 corrector F15 and 125 main goes on the way to work. Also, have 34 chokes. Hope to get these right or I'll have to put back on the 38/38 for the time being.
  23. Any idea of good baseline for jets, emulsion and air correctors? Running stock cam on e12 head and headers to 2.5 free flow exhaust. I live in Hawaii (Maui) at sea level and temperatures are always the same 80° + - 10° I have; 55f2 115 main jet F15 emulsion 200 air corrector I bought from the local VW shop 170 air correctors and 125 main jets but haven't installed.
  24. Sorry, just finished with linkage finite adjustment which took me almost to the edge of madness, heh. They looked fine, just a little surface rust by the screws that hold them to shaft. I swapped out the points mechanical advance distributor for one from Ireland that does away with the points. Regapped plugs to .035". Compression good all across. Valve adjustment 6 weeks ago. Idle screw where it belongs now before anyone spots it. Guy I bought the carbs from had them on a Nap Z engine which is on opposite side of engine.
  25. They checked out well when I freshened the carbs up. Same gap per the pair. Didn't inspect though to see if the plates were tweaked.
