Here's a little something not a lot of people knew about.
People have asked me, 'what's with the little cubby roll up thing in your center console in Tesoro?
Growing up, my father had an array of Mustangs that he had owned from the 60's and 70's. And as a little girl being passenger in his cars, I used to always fiddle around and open and close that roll up door in the center console of his 1967 Mustang fastback which drove him crazy! Haha! ?
So that roll up door in my console is somewhat of a reverence to my super cool dad.
My mother and father are now retired and live in Pacific Grove and there are times when they see an 02 here and there driving around. My dad once related a story to me saying that he saw an 02 at a gas station and said to the guy... "my daughter has an 02" .... and the guy says "oh yeah? That's cool..."
in which my father proudly states.... "She's the 02princess" ..... ?
So here's a Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there! Hope your day is as special as you are!
(Enclosed is a pic of my dad with his 72 Mustang and me with my super huge smile!)

A couple of years ago, I received these never been used, still in its sealed bag from BMW 1600/2002 mudflaps.
I wanted to originally put them on Tesoro, however, after contemplating on putting them on Tesoro with the 15' wheels... I decided to just hoard them as they were never opened from factory.
Then, Derby comes along.... and they look absolutely perfect on the original 13's! So PC ! I'm smitten with how they look on Derby! ??

I don't know if some of you have heard of all the crazy "eventful" stories of traveling to and from Vintage, but the second pic of the Bristol 70 car had a blown tire on the way and they hit a guard rail... The owner was ok, but it was so sad to see this original Bristol get hurt on the way.

Last pic is of Brandon Washburn with his girlfriend Tory, Cindy and Andrew Wilson, and Robert Olemedo with his son. A great group of friends on or way to the Sierra Nevada Brewery for dinner in a shuttle bus.

Wow! I am speechless as to what an amazing weekend I had at Vintage! Such a perfect location for the cars on the east coast! The drive to the BMW Foundation was epic and to the show on Saturday was such sweet reverie!

Met so many new friends and reacquainted with dear friends! A fellow BMW friend needed a second driver for the events, so I am "paying it forward" (as Andrew Wilson drove Tesoro for me to Brisbane) and I want to thank Robert Olmedo for entrusting me with driving his e9 and tii to the events!

There is no doubt that I'll be back out next year! Would love to try to get both Tesoro and Derby out.... ! ?

Enjoy the pics and have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

Pics part 1- at the BMW foundation with Andrew Wilson in His M5 and Brandon Washburn in his M3 and me driving Robert Olmedo's e9.

Spent about 3 hours the other night cleaning out the engine on Derby... sooo dirty! This car has definitely been driven!
I had the air cleaner and snorkel canister bead blasted and repainted.
Some little differences in the early cars.... love the ribless valve cover, the no hole plenum, the football washer fluid holder, no brake booster, tiny battery, baby radiator fan.... etc..
Also, I have this early radiator hose... but I cant put it on because it has a crack in it. Considering that it's pretty old and brittle, it's not safe to use, so I'm gonna hold onto this so no one gets hurt. ? (not for sale).
Back to another 3 hours of cleaning the engine tonight!

Such a nice turn out at Brisbane this year! And no rain!  Although it was quite breezy at times, the sun was out and both Tesoro and Derby made their debut at our own Bay Area 02 Swap and Show.

Coordinated a caravan of a dozen cars from the North Bay to meet up at Bill Arnold's shop at 7:30A. I only trust a handful of people to drive Tesoro or Derby and Who else better to ask, Andrew Wilson,  AKA "Mr. Maine BMW Chapter President" and "Iron Butt" award winner (who has traveled many miles across the states in his trusty VERN 2002tii), who flew out to this year's Brisbane and drove Tesoro to Brisbane and back for me as I drove in with Derby. Thank you Andrew !

It was truly remarkable to see so many 02s that came out this year! I met so many new faces and reacquainted with people on the FAQ and friends that I haven't seen in a while. I feel very fortunate to know some of you and thank you for those who have helped me with either your 02 history, parts that were unattainable, or just those looking out for me and my cars. Thank you to Le at 2002garagewerks for building the car of my dreams, and Thank you to Bill Arnold for keeping up the service for both Tesoro and Derby to have them safe on the road!

Here are some pics of Tesoro and Derby. I've seen some great shots of them on Instagram and FB too... ! Thanks for sharing the love!

    Getting excited for Brisbane!
Derby's original wheels are redone in the PC paint color (Thank you Anders!) and with PC tires. Michelin XAS 165/13. Hubcaps will be mounted at Brisbane.
Got the alignment done today and making Derby safe to drive the 100mile round trip to and from Brisbane.
(And to those of you who saw the glossy paint on the radiator, I had them redo the paint, take it down to metal and paint it satin black, much better! Thank you to Patrick from Bill's shop who did such a beautiful job on it! )
Time to get both cars detailed now!
Hope to see some of you there!

This is my euro spec 1967 1600, 6volt.... matching #s in Derby.... restored 8 years ago in its beautiful original glory!
I am the 4th owner of this stunning car and it's documented that this is one of only four in the world surviving matching#s original Derby 1600 car.
I hope to share this journey with you as I start to preserve this vehicle by maintaining it to be period correct and original....
Tesoro is super happy to have someone to play with!

    More pics on the way!

In preparation for Brisbane, Tesoro has a few things that I need to get ready and so does Derby!

Since Derby hasn't been driven much for the past few years with the previous owner, I've been sorting things out to make the car more 'safer' for the road while keeping items PC for the car.

Rear tail lenses have been switched out to amber lenses (they are new, but that is to make sure the lenses are more visible than the original ones). I still have the original lenses to hold onto for preservation.

Also, Derby never came with seat belts, so I had installed the earliest of seat belts that I could find which are the Klippan's.... There would be NO WAY that I would punch holes in the rear panels for the seat belts as they are the originals, so I had them installed on the B pillar instead. I hear that its safer on the B pillar anyways....

Got the radiator flushed and the old radiator reconditioned with new core... noticed the paint was too glossy from the radiator guy... so I need to get that repainted in a matte finish... I actually don't want this car to look too re-restored.. I actually like the "pre-loved" look .

It's all coming along nicely thanks to one of our Bay Area's most renowned and reputable legendary BMW mechanic Bill Arnold .

Performance Technics has graciously picked Tesoro to be their front 2002 feature for their tshirts!

This iconic picture taken by one of their very talented photographers is selling on their website.

I am in no way accepting any monetary compensation.

This is just a cool pic, done by a cool photo artist, being sold by a cool local BMW enthusiast shop! (Support our 02 legacy!)

Thank you to Performance Technic for choosing this pic of Tesoro done by Courtney and thank you to Mike modeling the shirt with your ever so fabulous wide body 75! ?

The BMW classic row! ? Got to meet some new friends and hangout with other BMW enthusiasts! ? On a day like this, how can you not take your car out? ?
Tesoro's new rear bumper seam cover is on! PROPER ! Thanks to up and coming car photographer @jannickvr for capturing Tesoro's spotless look at marin cars and coffee in Novato!    Plus a few more pics from the Marin CC website...   OPLusPl

While Derby's original wheels are getting stripped, bead blasted, primed, and refinished in the original formula paint color, I was able to order these special 1600 euro hubcaps from BMW.

Why are they special? The US 1600 hubcaps are NLA. The only way to order them is that you have to own a euro 1600 and have to give BMW the VIN # and copy of your title to them. They will then mark or flag your VIN so you can't reorder them or for anyone else.

Thank you to BLUNT for making this happen through BMW! I have ordered so many parts from this particular vendor and have always been highly pleased with their customer service! ?

Just when you think a restoration is done.... it's not.... ?
Tesoro's custom chrome rear bumper didn't look quite right to me.... and it's because the seam covers were not the right ones that went with this custom look.
First pic shows the seam cover under the rear taillight has an 'indentation' of where the rubber trim line would go on.
But because I had the rubber trim eliminated from these original 73 bumpers, I have to add on the euro early seam covers (with no rubber trim).

(Third pic you can see my 2series in the reflection! )

And now... we look PROPER including the silver welting along the side of the seam covers! ?

    I think??.... ?

    It's a Derby detail day!
Couldn't wait to wake up this morning to get Derby's original seats and carpet delicately steamed cleaned (this poor guy... I'm watching him like a hawk LOL) and I've allotted about 4 hrs of my day to detail the car myself which I will have it ready to be detailed again professionally before Brisbane.... and yes... my only insanity is owning 02s.... ?
I asked the cleaner to not put the hot steam cleaning nozzle on the original fabric, so he added a thin towel over the nozzle to prevent it from burning the original fabric. (Just in case!) Original carpets were also steamed cleaned.
Still smells like an 02 though! Such an intoxicating smell....

Here's some interior pics of Derby! Notice some of the rare pieces like the metal rear view mirror, the seat hinges, the two tone euro only seats, the silver instrument cluster in km/h, the chrome under dash, under the seat levers, the chrome window crank and door handle, hazard light under the dash, the original carpeting, white visors, original steering wheel.....! ?
What I love What I love seeing is the
What I love seeing is chrome ignition area where it says "Garage" and "Halt" ... Also, what's interesting to me is the key chain tag... I'm wondering if the original owner got the keys from the dealership and the keys came with the little imprinted tag "1600-2"...

Derby originally didn't come with seatbelts... and there was no way that I wanted to have the holes poked in the rear panels... so I had the masterful mechanic Bill Arnold install the Klippans for me in the B pillar... I liked that the car had no seatbelts... but if I'm gonna drive Derby... I have to have them in.. Safety first!

And yes... I already have the PC door arm rests to swap out...

So cool to see all original parts from 1967 in a 1600! More pics to come!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend! ??
