  1. A little advice, see-vu-play.

    I have two 2002s.

A 1975 that has good solid, firm brakes.

And a 1970 that, despite having what looks like adequate pads and a thorough brake flush, still has pretty mushy pedal feel (esp compared to the newer car).

Any suggestions about the best way to up date this? Do they sell steel braided brake lines for these cars?

    Thanks fellas!

  2. wow, thanks for posting!

Note to others, you need to watch the pics backwards, start at 52 and go to 1.

Also, I can't tell why the work had to be done down near the carpet, taking off a bracket and the blue wire?

Yep they appear backwards, were not like that yesterday..just view like Uro said, back to front. Not sure what the extra clamp with the blue wire was. and not sure if any other 02's have that so I went ahead and included it just in case. The other clamp at the carpet is the clamp that holds the column tube in place against the firewall

Forgive me, but why do you have to take that clamp off against the firewall? It looks like everything slips off the wheel end of the column?

  3. I had a hesitation / miss when going up hills when I drove my cab home for the first time. It turned out to be sediment in my fuel filter that would plug the flow of gas to the carb and starve the engine. Something else to consider.

    Good luck,

    Mark92131

Oh Mark, what a lovely lovely car. If you ever want to sell...... :)

  4. you switched the plugs wires around and you

    weren't timing to zyl. # 1 ???

    i'd loose some sleep tonite.

LOL! thank goodness I wasn't that dumb!

Actually, the whole thing was a teaching lesson for my daughter (who wants to learn how to work on cars, we did all the clutch hydraulics last week).

I coached her through an oil change, setting the valves, plugs, wires, all the things in the dizzy.

After we were all done, the grand finale was to show her how to use the timing light and dwell meter to get the car humming!

Imagine my chagrin when I couldn't get it to run well.....

    Anyway its running great now.

This week ends lesson for her is changing the tranny fluid and the rear end fluid.

thanks to everyone for their help! :)

  5. Fellas, I feel like a total clutz. I set and reset the timing, re-changed the plugs, checked every single step and no better.

So I finally said "screw it, I'll do like I did back in 1980"; I did it by ear and feel . Car is running great now, really smooth with a nice little burble (headers and Ansa exhaust).

I just can't figure out why I couldn't do it with the timing light.

Thanks for all the tips! :):):)

  6. Thanks for all the kind replies!

I will check the vacuum hose as described.

I don't know the compression but i had the bottom rebuilt and the head replaced a few months back (I did not do that myself, def above my abilities!).

I did put oil in the felt and lubed the points fiber contact thingy on the shaft.

If I can't get it to work, I will start from the beginning this week end, valves, plugs wires etc. fortunately I have all those items new on the shelf.

    thanks fellas!

  7. Fellas, hope you can give me a little advice, I'm at the end of my rope.

    I have a 1975 2002 with a 2 barrel Weber conversion.

Car ran somewhat rough when cold, but good when warm.

So, I checked the valve gaps, all good.

    Changed plugs using NGKs.

    New wires.

New points, condenser and rotor. Did not change cap.

Now, I just can't seem to get the timing right.

The steps I follow are these:

    1. Warm car up.

    2. Disconnect the vacuum tube from the dizzy, leaving it hooked to the carb, and plug it.

    3. Use a timing light off the 1st plug wire to strobe the ball on the flywheel.

    4. Roll the dizzy sightly this way and that until the ball is in view and ~the flat plate. The ball bounces a bit.

    5. I've tried this at idle, at 1400 and at 2000.

With all tries I notice a miss under load, esp going up hill. Some setting worse than others, but a miss no matter what I do.

I have rechecked the point gap (.016), the plugs and made sure all the wires are tight.

Any suggestion would be REALLY appreciated!

    Thanks!
