FYI on a tii .... there is a bracket which attaches to the back of the starter which goes down to the block, to provide support for the starter .... and the bracket also goes up to attach to the throttle body for support up there.
Some folks use the bracket, I guess others don't .....

so, you learn something every day ...... I found a sticker, with both VIN and MFG DATE, affixed to the driver's door ..... sheesh, I haven't noticed that sticker in decades. (fyi, the sticker is that self-destructive, perforated stock, silver in color).
MFG DATE = 7/74
And I just sent an email to Andreas Harz .... thanks much for that contact info !!
Cheers,
Carl

bnam,
I made some "logical" assumptions, which is dangerous ..... there's a few pieces and parts stamped with 6-74 ......
I'll take another look and see if I see anything that says 7-74 ......

WOW, that is some kinda high tech setup !!!!! never have heard about it.
obvious question: what is contact info for williamgruff ?? Google can't find any reference(s) on the 'net.

nuts.
The actual problem is the driver's-side flange hole is nicely elongated, which results in:
1) the handbrake handle itself no longer being centered fore-and-aft between the seats, it "leans" toward the driver's side.
2) the pull on each brake cable is not equal, so there's unequal braking force on each rear wheel.
SO, for a fixit, I'm planning on installing a properly-positioned metal washer on the outside of the driver's side flange, then welding it in place. The handbrake handle mounting pin will then bear on the washer to maintain proper position.

This is the parking brake handle mounting location between the seats ...... the driver's side tab needs some repair work.
Can this whole assembly be removed as a unit ?? Or is it permanently attached to the bodywork ??
Not the best of locations for a welding torch ......

I don't think I've seen that car before ......

hack,
bloody hell ....... that is one scary story !!
I can see a new Semi-Annual Maintenance Task:
1) grab clutch slave cylinder with big ChannelLocks
2) rotate while hosing down with something liquid & lube-y.

I wouldn't guess it to be anything emissions related.
the hose is basic off-the-shelf from any auto parts store.
But the vacuum thingie on the distributor, that's over my head ..... give Blunt a call for that technical info.
Cheers,
Carl

schnell,
yep, there's a vacuum advance ....... here's some pics of my '74tii which show vacuum hose routing.

my first post in the EVENTS Forum ..... previously I've only posted this notice at the '02 General Forum.
For several months, we've had a "first Sunday of the month" gathering for cars and coffee in Chino ..... Sunday May 5th will be the next one. All are invited !!
bourkeco says he will be bringing some interesting pastry thingies to complement the coffee.

I'll guess vacuum advance system ..... all the hoses hooked up ?? Cracks/air leaks in the hoses ?? Is the mechanism working correctly ??
-- sounds like the same problem I had on an old truck: vacuum advance system broke, no power at high rpm's.

FINAL REPORT. Last week I removed the speedometer. There wasn't anything I could fix so I took it to Speedo Check in Whittier. Mike called me this morning to let me know repairs were complete ($95).
Just finished the reinstallation and quick road check, it is working. I'll head out tomorrow for a canyon drive and a full test drive workout.
Oh, and the cable seems to be OK. No noise at all now. I'm confident the problem was the speedometer.

some water at the bottom of the tank due to condensation ??
a wierd idea, based on personal experience: point gap too small ??

give a call to German Import in Simi Valley, Gino might be able to help ...... as best I know, Gino races a 2002 so he is probably familiar with the MS system.
I've never had any work done there so I can't vouch for the place.
