  15. back to my project after long hiatus I installed a rebuilt steering box, new links etc. question, should the pitman arms hit against both stops on the subframe? as you can see from this photo. when the steering box runs out of travel, the arm is not against the stop. if i move the arm on the splined shaft, then the gap is on the idler side. i cant get it to hit the stop on both sides any ideas? is this a problem? mike 2002 1974
  16. you're right- i should have looked there. torqued it up more, and now the washer turns together seems correct thanks mike
  17. just putting my steering together. any help appreciated. 1. castle nut on top of idler bolt- what is torque value to tighten this? 2. I have tightened it so far what seems right- QUESTION: should the silver washer turn with the idler bolt? it now does not. when I move the idler link, the castle nut turns on top of the steel washer. Is that the way that this should function? or should the silver washer be turning with the nut? thanks mike 2002 1974
  18. I have come to terms with all the rust work my "california car" needs ( the old British Columbia phone book I found under the back seat was an indication of how expensive my education would be) I found these weird scars in the inner wall- right where the door brake is. is this an accepted/required way to service the door brakes? it's on both sides. any ideas? should I have the body shop weld these back up? I ripped out all carpet tonight. when I took out the seat belts I saw the indicator wires. What's the best way to terminate those wires? back to the fuse panel? thanks all for your help so far. As soon as I get the rebuilt steering back together this thing gets rolled to the body shop, rust repair, and then back to my house to receive the rebuilt motor. Mike 1974 2002
