Thank you WHS, this sounds like a very interesting option. Do you know of a good supplier? Best, Jeff

Hi Jeff, yes in germany ;-)

For USA the Avon dealer locater says www.sascosports.com

    or www.frisbyracetire.com

Too bad I have no photo of these tyres on a 02. But I saw these tyres at my last Nürburgring race in October on a FIA pig cheek car and it looks great instead of these  super small diameter 225/45 Hankooks, Toyos or Michelins.

Diameter is 559mm Avon - 529mm (Toyo for example)

They are available in soft and medium compound.

It will be my next tyre for streetuse.

    Best Regards Wolfgang

  2. Hi Tom, yes it was an Alpinacar. But nearly all parts are changed over the years.  Really hard crashes, new built x times, because it was used as a rallyecar in the eightees and ninetees, the next new built and I changed the rest of the car back to a trackcar. And I plan the next modifications which could be possible in FIA group2/71. W.

    All,

I forgot to add that the quality would definitely be better than that of the one I have in stock. That was a German casting. My friend when he examined the piece to give me a price per piece for an order of 10, commented it was pretty bad quality and that he could do better than that... I've added another picture of some of his other stuff he already did for me in the past so you can judge the quality. I can make more and closer pictures of these if needed...

I absolutely have no idea yet on the cost for machining as I haven't asked for a quote yet. Difficult to find in my area companies wanting to give a quote for a CNC setup for a run of 10 pieces only...

I will see in the coming couple of weeks if I can find a company willing to do it...

    Regards,

    Tom

Hi Tom, if the part is from Germany I know it. But it is NOT my work. Regards W.

Fortunately, nearly all vintage racing in North America is not subject to the draconian FIA rulebook.  VARA, HSR, HMSA, SVRA, SOVREN, etc use their own set of rules that generally allow for limited amount of innovation and practical adaption.

That car is beautifully prepped, someone will have a lot of fun with it.  The E9 CSL dash is a great classy touch.

Draconian FIA rulebook? No, I would say the FIA Appendix K is consequent. Everything what was homologated in the time period is allowed. But absolutely NO Innovation. That is easy. The Problem is, most of the guys want to win (there are a lot of professional Drivers on the grid here in germany), so they look more and more to make some Innovation for their Advantage.  The consequence is, more control, more control and a lot more control. And at the end of the day, you think the rules are draconic. But that is the consequence of the idea to save technical history on the racetrack.

This have nothing to do with fun or not, well prepared or not, the target is another.

    That's a good-looking dash unit.

No glass. No FIA rules. To summarize - and this is merely an opinion based on not-an-abundant-amount-of-racing - I'd say that many/most race organizations over here are about racing vintage cars which are built in the 'spirit' of the day (allowing for some modern parts, obviously). On shape and size, the cars don't look all-that different than what were seen on the street. There are organizations which feature race cars which actually raced in the day - perhaps more similar to the rules* you refer to (*a fair share of imagination goes on there as well). whs.de, you can check for an example rules on the SVRA or VARA websites.

    Hi again, thanks for Input.

That means, the rules are "modern" rules for historic racing and not based on old IMSA rules for example or maybe other North american rules of the days.

By the way, FIA Appendix K rules do not exclude beer :-)

Ken, very nice work on the car.  Super clean.  Someone is going to be really happy with that car.  A number of folks produce the Gruppe 2 dash and console that is made of fiberglass (homologated for use in o2's).  This is one that Ahrend is selling.

Hi, I produce the fiberglass dash, also. It is one of a few parts to save weight in a ´75 group2 racecar.

It seems to me, that early FIA Homologation Plays no role in this race series of that car. The car is so different from every seventies FIA rules. But I am interested in that rules, maybe someone can help :-)

I like that car, it Looks really cool, made with love ;-) I also like the style of the frontspoiler, really nice work, impressive!

Is there no glas in the doors?

Oh boy. Thanks W! I really appreciate it. I don't know how you guys handle it.

I have atteched the Alpina A1 "Gutachten" here as pdf file.

    Quote

Germany.... Where they make is as difficult as possible to have the not-as-fun car that they want you to have, not the fun car that you want to build. Story of my life.

In their eyes a historic car is not a fun car. It is technical culture and you have to save it.
For example the H&R Cup kit is a.) not historic b.) no existing "Gutachten" , that means there is no evidence for, in your opinion, safer Suspension.

    Quote

TUV gave me months of trouble over getting H-Plates because I had the H&R Sport Cup Kit installed. I basically had to show up 3-4 times in a row without changing a thing, till they got so annoyed by having to re-inspect that they finally approved my perfectly good car with a better, safer suspension.

This will be a problem... I will have spent allot of time and money getting the airbox solution I feel is best for what I want on the car, and have no interest in tracking down and spending more time and money for a factory airbox that I don't want to run. Plus, those setups aren't cheap! I hear plenty of new, big AMG Mercedes that are WAY louder than my little 02. I might take the "get annoying" route I went with my suspension unless somebody close has an intake I could borrow.

What is your plan for an airbox? This is a critical Point and there are not many Options. But the best choice is TI airbox, this is the guarantee for "no Problems"

What is the AU/ co-tester you are referring to?

You know the AU (Emission test) 4% co in idle? It Needs a bit more Feeling to adjust co with twin webers. So you Need a gauge to check co in idle.

Haha, I plan to tell them nothing, other than I put on some Weber Carburetors.

As for choke size, If I can get her up and running and running well with what I have, I'll be happy for now.

All the money that I would have paid somebody else to tune I am spending on the tools that will let me tune myself, so that in the future I can make changes and upgrade/modify, and it won't cost me any more money other than Jets, Chokes, etc. So I think I'm spending my money well at this moment.

Thanks for all the help/recommendations, navigating old car/historic car bureaucracy in Germany is really challenging even if you're from here and speak the language, and i'm neither of these things!

Yes it is a challenge :-) But, I have a group2 racecar street legal here in Germany, so everything is possible if you do it right!

Nope, not yet. Finding approvals and and paper work is something I haven't gotten to yet. If you have some recommendations on where to start looking, I'd love the help!  I had just planned to take it over to the local TUV station once it's completed and ask them what I would need to get it through, and start from there.

It would be better to ask before tuning. But ok, I think you should use the Alpina A0 (I will give you a link by PM) Gutachten. It works -115PS and with 40 Weber and Solex.  So you can use the small brakes. If you have TI brakes you can say, I have a standard 2Liter TI Engine 120PS but there are problems with parts, so I do not use Solex, I use Weber. Use a correct airbox! They do not like noise emission at the TÜV! Use a standard TI airbox, everything else could be a problem- no Gutachten!

Important, do not forget the AU! You need a co tester.

Do not tell the Tüv engineers too much, make everything fine, use standard parts (TI) as much as you have and everything will be good. If you use a electrical fuelpump, use an automatic safety switch off!

And use choke size 34. Or why have you tuned your engine? I use a standard 2Liter TI engine in my 1600-2 streetcar and 34 is the minimum. Do not save money at the wrong end.

  9. Hi, 3d printer is impossible. Material and color is ugly and no structure. Or why is no one going to produce them on the 3d printer since years? You can make funny things with 3d printers, but this makes no sense, it is only timewaisting.

We make the parts in small charges, but at the moment nothing in stock because everybody wants the parts here in germany and the production needs time. The look, structure, material, is like the original. The set is EUR 150.- plus shipping, bank fee etc.

    Here a sample.

  10. FIA period G2 homologated lightweight fiberglass doors. I sell them as a kit. Only the fiberglass parts as shown on the pictures.

If you are interested or have questions, send me a PM please. Price 380.- Euro /pair plus shipping, location germany.

    Thanks for trying...

I have a vacuum retarded distributor...no problems (I think) I am a newbie And when I was timing by numbers I was getting pretty strange results...when I time by motor sound it runs well but Like max advancement at around 25 degrees... So it made me think my dizzy needed recurving... But I couldn't find the curve so I emailed Bosch..

Test for the installed rev-limiter with respect to the bench-test EFZV10 [is as follows]:

As revs increase from 3400 rpm, sparks must cease with increasing rpm's.

Repeat the test with decreasing rpm's.

I'm afraid I don't really understand the fourth paragraph.  I'm assuming the verb is ausbleiben, but the translation doesn't make sense to me.  But maybe it will to you guys ...

Hi, not with respect to the bench-test, it means on the bench-tester.

Your Translation of the fourth paragraph seems correct to me.  Ausbleiben/aufhören-> cease is ok.

That is the way how Bosch service test the rev Limiter on the EFZV10.

  13. Yes I can read it, but I am not able to translate it directly and maybe also not correct.

In my own words, the topic is to adjust the RPM limiter on a test bench type EFZV10.

I do not know your distributor problem, but do you have a RPM limiter in it? This is a special rotor arm noone need it. Only problems with it.
