I hope you can still touch your toes. That's massive and not to be considered trivial.
wait for it...

If you elect to remove the index pin on the JBR flywheel, do you need to rebalance it?

I used JBR flywheel (8lbs) and clutchmasters clutch. Perfect.
The index pin on the JBR flywheel is removable. But like Jim said, balance issue! Do not just take material off a balanced flywheel.
Yes, the M3 PP is deeper than 2002 part. It is VERY close to the 245 bell housing. I did some clearancing on the second 245 for it. Not a big deal. I unfortunately had direct experience with what happens when the PP hits the 245 at 100mph. That, is a big deal.

are you using the stock ecu or aftermarket? i don't see the mounts for the stock sensors welded to the bellhousing.
-
@jimk said is right. use all M3 parts in there.
do not clearance the PP, clearance the bellhousing. there are several places it needs metal ground off for the PP to clear, and where the trigger tab on the flywheel needs to clear.
i just did this last winter. thought i had a bunch of pics, but unfortunately can't find them.

That's because you forget what you did yesterday, so you project starts over every day.
It's not "project creep".... it's "project retard".
LOL...so true. when i was working, there was time pressure. i got a lot of projects done fast. since retiring, projects take much longer. eg...I am currently doing the oil pan gasket on my S54 powered race car. should take an afternoon...now on my third day. 🤣 it is wonderful.

spare tire considerations..
open diff or LSD. if open, tire diameters can be mismatched. if LSD, must have same size on both rear wheels or diff clutches will see extra wear.
what brakes? I have seen many cars with larger brakes fitted and bigger wheels, but owner still carried a 13in spare....which will not fit over the brakes so it is just extra weight. heck even an offset difference could prevent use of the spare.
make sure the spare is the right diameter, than that it will actually fit on the car.......

great setup for an 02!

LOL..the real weight of all this sound deading effort is in all the amps , speakers and subboxes folks put in trying to make a concert hall out of a 70's tin box! 🤣
after my early efforts to make my 02 quieter, i ended up just replacing the stereo system with an S14.

and as has been covered before in other threads, dynamat/rammat type products are not used to cover everything in a "second skin". you only use a limited amount to kill the vibrations of the panel. a second layer of a sound absorbing foam type material is then used to cover everything.

Wondering if these were (really) New OLD stock parts that have been sitting around for many years.
that would be my first guess. is there a date code on the part somewhere?

Well that’s really disappointing. The boot between the air cleaner and the turbo elbow is also shared with the E30 M3. Wonder if those owners are experiencing similar failures.
as an E30 M3 owner, have not see or heard of any failure like that.
is the part number in question
11611310785
Rubber boot
that is the e30 part number and realoem does not show that it crosses to the 2002 turbo.

any rubber that is 30 years old is long overdue for replacement......

Just by your pic, trans not aligned with engine. It needs to be perfectly square to slide on the whole way. If at an angle the nose of input shaft will not get into the bearing.
Did you get a tool to center the clutch disk?
It is it in gear so you can use output flange to rotate unit shaft?

21 years of an awesome resource!!!
it is only as good as the information folks provide...keep posting how to's, articles and build threads!
unlike the fleeting attention span of FB, insta, etc, this is a long term repository of 2002 information.

2002 vs 2002tii: Which will hold resale value as a restomod?
in BMW 2002 and other '02

yep. who cares what the resale value of any car is? drive/build/modifiy/restore for what YOU want. not what some possible future owner might value.
