  1. if not depreciating, the sales seem to be slowing down. ebay not really the perfect measure, but it seems in the last several months the number of 02's for auction has been about the same, but the number that either get zero bids or don't get close to reserve seems to have gone vertical. rarely do you see a car actually sell anymore. tha 2002 market seems to be a year or so behind the housing market. sellers still think they can get top dollar, but buyers are not willing to go that high.

  2. Nice car. I am sure you already know the E36 maladies, but just in case... At that mileage you need to ditch the original waterpump and get one with a metal impeller. The thermosdat, radiator, fan clutch and cooling fan also need to go as do any original belts and hoses. Also keep an eye on the trunk floor for stress related illness. The diff and gearbox are expensive so change those fluids. Have fun

trunk floor? that's a new one to me...been driving and racing e36's for 13 years and never heard of trunk floor issues. subframe mounts yes, but that only applies to non-m e36's that have been beat on with dead subframe bushings. hve more info on the trunk floor thing?

  3. I have a small 5hp, 30 gallon Campbell Hausfield I bought on a going out of business sale. I keep hoping it will die so I can ask for a bigger on for a gift from the wife.

It just keeps running. It handles the air tools just fine. It really suffers when I try and sand blast with it. It also suffers a bit when I use the die grinder for an extended period of time.

Get as big as you can, weigh 120v to the 240v. When you do get it, put a pipe with elbow from the bottom drain. Then put a ball valve on that. Make the ball valve easy to reach so you can drain the moisture from the tank at least weekly. This will make your tank last much longer and not rust quickly.

Investigate what water seperators and oilers you may need on the supply side. Moisture through air tools is like sand going through a gas motor. Keep the moisture out of your tools and drop a drop of light oil in the supply coupling when you use your air tooks. If you do not have an automatic oiler, that is the only lubrication they will get.

Northern Tools, Tractor Supply, brick and mortar stores or TP Tools, On-line have good choices.

    what bill said...

plus, if you don't want to go deaf, don't get the direct drive "oilless" compressors you find everywhere. extremely loud. i have one, but i built it into a sound insulated compartment under my workbench.

  4. depends on what you define as "best". sounds like the ramflo is the only thing that fits, but iirc, they are just filters on the stacks. if you are looking for best performance, the theory says this is not a good option. they draw warm air from around the engine. warm air = lower power. to optimize power, you need something that ducts air from the front of the car...the relatively "cold" air compared to engine compt air. cold = denser charge = more power. on a street car, this difference may not be a big issue though.

  5. i have a 97 sedan ( 5spd, techno violet/mulberry). i have owned and used as daily driver since it was new. as someone else said, if you can only have one car, this is the car to have. fast, comfortable, 4drs, 30mpg highway, loves track days or driving to work. i don't ever plan on selling mine!

they only made the 4dr in 97 and 98. just over half were automatics. if live in a big city with lots of traffic and don't plan on doing trackc days, the automatic is an excellent option.
