Great pictures! Really fun to look through them all several times. Interesting trip, too

A friend in the Alfa world is asking me if I know whether the front Recaro seats from an '88 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde Recaro will fot a 2002 or other BMW. Anyone know?
Thanks,

Thanks, John and Mike, for the wonderful reminders of Michel. There's a wonderful story I'll tell you guys sometime about a new member (me) visiting Boston for the first time and ending up on an all-night fishing trip with Michel and Michael Izor.
Michel was a character, and had his strong and weak points, but he was right about the club being about the people more than the cars!

I've had good luck with this guy....so have a few others on here.

Ow, sad to see, but it should be a pretty easy fix, hate to see another nice car get parted out. I wish I had the room and extra cash!

FWIW, I remember trying the soft mount kits and their not working very well. I instead went with phenolic (plastic) insulators with regular gaskets on each side. I also made a support bracket that bolts to the back of the home made air filter housing and to one of the starter bolts to take the stress off the intake mounting.
Others will probably chime in and their thoughts would also be useful as well as things have changed a bit since I did mine in 1996.

Years ago, when I lived in the Bay Area, I got several keys cut at one of the best places I've ever found:
Key Kraft
1585 Church St
(between Duncan St & 28th St)
San Francisco, CA 94131
Neighborhood: Noe Valley
(415) 285-0134
Trudee Gardner
Hope this helps someone,

Awesome post, CD!

Nice project car....looks like it may have parts from several cars on it, check the lack of armrests, interesting early seats, tobacco color interior parts don't seem to match with the carpet and gray paint, rust in several areas, and there's probably more that my lazy eyes don't see.
But nitpicking aside... if I had more room and money... I'd be trying to grab it too.

If this was some errant guy selling parts and not replying, etc, Curt would have offered to pay him a friendly visit on our behalf.
That Mark has taken over Curt's business and is now doing what he's doing surely has Curt turning in his grave.
I can well understand how he may be busy, etc, recore shops are hard to find, and there can be difficulties in making ends meet, yadda, yadda, yadda, but the complete lack of communication isn't easy to explain away.
There is a point where it becomes theft, literally.
Are there any nice '02ers out there who know where Mark lives and might be considerate enough to pay him a friendly visit?
Lacking that, from what I read, it sounds like it might be time to see about getting the local authorities involved to see if they can motivate Mark....

Any idea on the mileage of the engine? How long have you had the car, and what kind of mileage has it seen in the past few years? Cars that have been sitting or rarely driven for long periods of time sometimes exhibit low compression or high oil consumption and need to be driven for a good trip (500-1000 miles) to literally re-break them in. But a quart in 250 miles is a lot without any leakage.
It is probably valve stem seals, and maybe the rings if the mileage is high. You will need to have a shop do a compression and leakdown test first to determine what needs to be done.
There are others on this board who will surely chime in with recommendations on costs and shops in the Portland area, as I am near Chicago.
Car looks good in the pics, though I've a weakness for bright colors.

Yeah, it could also be a leak at one of the rear wheel cylinders, if someone else hasn't already mentioned it. I ran into this problem while driving Chet's white tii across the country a decade ago.

Wish it was closer, I'd love to go. I always enjoy talking with Joseph during O'Fest. Please let us young-old-timers know when/where your coverage can be seen.
BTW, if Bette Rachlin asks about Yale's car, it now belongs to Justin Gerry in NY, and is pretty much all restored to it's original glory and sees track day usage like it should. You probably know that anyway....
Thanks!

The car didn't need the reflectors to be imported into Canada. Do you know if the car was ever imported into the US at any point? Even then, a prior owner might have had the reflectors added.
i too hope it goes to a good home, indeed, a very honest and well-represented car in the pictures.

The rear side reflectors were added at some point, but it's hard to guess by who.

Great photo, house and cars!

Or maybe the lost "Winged Monster" built by Dave Nickolas in Michigan in the early '90s? Supposedly 500hp on a turbo M10, weighs about 1500? lbs. Dave is trying to find out the whereabouts of the car, I believe.

I'd agree with repoman too. bcarey, it's a good thing to become familiar with the little things like repo says, especially if you're looking at old cars like this. It helps to look at cars whenever you can, even if they're not BMWs, as you'll see many of the same kinds of problems. If you have a chance to go to a local show or get together, try to eyeball some of the nicer looking cars and see what other people think is a really nice car and why. It won't be long before you can easily look past shiny new paint and see imperfections that indicate a poor job, etc.
Good luck!

Yes to what Marshall said....huge amount of time and effort, you have to decide if the $$ is worth it.

For all the luck I've had with Autoline in the past, they weren't able to find a truck in time for my latest transport. So I contacted Gilbert, who now has his own company, Philamtransport, and he was able to find me a truck right away at a great price. The transport worked out perfect thanks to Gilbert, give him a call at: 818-826-3216 or gilbert@philamtransport.com

Yeah, what Jim and Rob said! Good luck with the sale!

It should be Colorado, but it's also possible the paint was mixed incorrectly a bit, making it a little lighter.
