  1. Great picture!!

Basically, the original photographer owned the copyright unless he was clearly compensated by Alpina (money, parts, etc) for the photo. Then the ownership was transferred to the entity that compensated him.

If Alpina gave a copy of the photo to someone, that is merely a gift, and the copyright does not transfer unless it is spelled out in some sort of agreement. It would be reasonable for him to post a copy on his personal website or wherever. If it was to promote his business, not reasonable. If they were to request he remove it, legally, he would be required to do so. He also would not be able to sell copies, posters, etc. without written permission.

If Ireland copied the picture from his website or photo album without anybody's written permission, it would be awkward for them to post it on their website because it could be construed that they are using it to promote their business. If someone at Ireland copied it for their personal use, that would be acceptable.

Posting such items on a forum or mailing list allows the usage on the forum/list, but not anywhere else especially for the purpose of earning income.

Basically, if it can be construed that someone is using the images, story, etc to promote/enhance their business, website, etc. that they in some way earn income or use as a reference to earn income, then they need to have written permission stating the terms of usage allowed, otherwise the copyright still belongs to the photographer/writer UNLESS they have clearly and knowingly compensated the writer/photographer for the ownership. If there was no clear compensation, and if the "artist" requests that it be removed, the site owner can be held liable for removal.

    Make sense?

  2. Hi Jon,

When you first contacted me, nothing was said about Terry or anyone else being interested in the car. If they were, why contact me? I had the impression you offered it to me first, so to speak. I thought I made it really clear I wanted the car, since I had just missed buying the other one. We didn't talk about money. I didn't know what you wanted for the car, and didn't want to insult you by offering $500 if you were looking for $2000 and there were extra parts not pictured. I never heard back, and I never had a chance to turn it down. That's why I was surprised and disappointed that you instead chose to sell it to Terry.

Thanks anyway, and if anything does come up, I'll let you know.

  3. Hi Jon,

Just to set the record straight, your first email to me said:

This isnt the Vince who was looking for Glas 1300 body parts is it? If so give me a call.

    Jon Erwin

The second email with pictures said:

    Vince,

A guy named Terry Fayater from texas is trying to buy this thing as well. Hope all is well, did you happen to find "Crusty"?

    Jon

My reply regarding the car said:

Are there any other parts included with the car, or is everything in the pictures? Any thoughts on what you want to get for the car?

You never replied to that or any other emails about the Glas.

So, if you sold it to Terry, it sure didn't sound like a deal was done when you sent me the pictures. Natch, you could have gotten more for it from me than Terry. I was hoping to buy the shell, then convince Terry to sell me the car once he saw how rusty it was.

Yep, this addiction is fun when I can deal honestly and straightforward with people. Good luck finding Crusty and buying the Yella Dawg back.

  4. Vince probably isn't looking for a Glas any more. I've been wanting to buy another one since I left CA in 2000. Having been screwed out of the 1600GT despite making a deal with the flaky seller before Terry came into the picture (and Terry later told me the seller said I was trying to buy it), then going to the seller with more money than Terry offered while the seller was still wondering if Terry was sending a check and still not getting the car was bad enough. I told Terry at Oktoberfest that I was still very interested in buying the car from him Then Jon Erwin sent me pics of the car he was selling, and I wanted to buy it, and he never got back to me.

They're great little cars, and if a 1600GT project came along, it would be hard to turn down, but I have plenty of other interesting projects that don't have such unpleasantness attached to them.

  5. Yep, made it home without incident in the green ti. Like others have said, it was cool to see everybody again, and make new friends as well. The car was fine all the way, and is now resting indoors waiting for an oil change and cleaning of night rally dust. Then it needs a bit of exhaust welding especially due to that Night Rally Roadkill that jumped up and hit the exhaust.

  6. I am booked and ready to go, but will be in WI the weekend before we leave on a vintage motorcycle event. I'll be getting back Sunday afternoon. Any thoughts yet on when we're planning to leave Monday? I will need to break away once we get into New York to check on something a bit farther north, but may be able to catch up with the group before Watkins Glen.

    Thanks,

    vince,

  7. What I did years ago....was to use an early Datsun 240Z air filter sandwiched between two flat pieces of aluminum that was drilled to fit the Weber 40DCOEs. The Webers have slightly shorter air horns that fit inside the air filter assembly. Ideally, there should be an amount equal to the diameter of the air horn between the intake and top of the air filter assembly. These really isn't much room, and I had to crush part of the tilerr and the top with a vise to clear the ti/tii booster. On the back side it a plastic plumbing fitting for the crankcase ventilation hose.

I bent the dipstick tube, and made a bracket for it that attaches to the top starter bolt.

Not having the air horns really decreases the performance of the DCOEs. Not having them also results in hesitation and poor acceleration and backfiring on deceleration because of the turbulence of the air rushing around the carb intakes.

    I've attached a pic, I think...hope it helps,

  8. As to the interior, the dash is just a standard euro early dash with the chrome trim. The silver (not chrome) rimmed clock is the only ti specific part. The speedo should have been in KPH, but that may have been changed by the dealers, as back then MPH was probably more common. The chrome trim kind of fades to a dull silver, fairly easily replicated with any bright silver spray paint if you're careful.

Steering wheel is a black leather rimmed version as in the pics above for a black interior, or a polished wood rimmed version with the brown interior

The console is the short version like in the pictures. Note how it fits with the euro dash, as the US version short consoles are longer on top and don't fit.

The seats can be of three varieties from the factory:

    -Plain regular vinyl

-Vinyl with cloth inserts like many other euro 2002s

-BMW Recaro sport seats in black vinyl, also used in early Porsches, not the same as in a 2002 turbo.

    Hope thie helps,

    vince

  9. Justin,

I recall Michel telling me that the car had an issue with guibos coming apart often and needing to be replaced. Yale took the car to Beaconwood Motors, whom he had an agreement with where he did their ads for the Roundel and they did some work on the car.

Having replaced some guibos myself, it's pretty easy to line them up correctly, so this may not be an issue if you've worked on the trans/driveshaft already.

  10. That sounds good. I know where it is now. I will be there.

The shakedown run shouldn't be too eventful. All I need to do, prolly all this weekend, is replace the front struts, and install a Curt Ingraham radiator and an electric fan. If time permits, I've also got some bushings to replace as well, but nothing serious.

    Thanks,

    vince

  11. Gee, Mac, that's awful nice! I am expecting to have the car roadworthy that weekend, and was thinking that I should give it a good shakedown run before going to Oktoberfest the next weekend. So I will be there if you can let me know more about where and what time. I know it's up near Carpentersville, now called Raceway woods

    Thanks!

    vince

  12. The ti did not come with a 300 degree cam, but it is very possible some were installed after the car left the factory by dealers and owners. Close ratio 5 speeds and limited slip diffs were options, but could have also been added later. Same with the factory Recaro sport seats.

The rim of the clock is silver, not chrome, and the face is slightly different than the tii. It does have the euro dash and hard to find real short console, again being a euro car.

    Yes, 4 bladed fan, etc.

  13. I've maintained a register of 2002tis and 1600tis that I took over from Richard JD Poole (who kept it for many years). I try to keep track of every real one that comes up, and sometimes I have info on the previous owner, etc.

As others have told you, the cars are similar to tiis in many ways. It is also important to point out that any real ti is a euro car, and might have some oddities more common to euro cars than US cars (radios, seats, wheels, lights, gauges, etc).

  14. Hi Joel,

I'll try to answer some questions...

The Vintrage Fest is Sunday, 8/31.

The swap meet isn't so organized as to have boots, just spread your treasures or junk on the ground

Dave is not one of the organizers and neither am I

The event is at Bill Jacob's Vintage Reserve in Willowbrook (75th & 83), not one of his dealerships

What kinds of parts are you expecting your friend to drop off? Big and bulky is hard to handle for some folks. Your friend would probably need to arrange with someone else who is going to the event to drop the parts with them so they can transfer them to you on the day of the show. Give us more details, such as what and where and it would be easier to help you.

    Kugelfisher, ben.

    Hello Folks,

What exact date is the windy City fest. (Sat. or Sun)

Does anybody have a booth there.

Dave, Are you one of the organizers.

You mentioned that you might be able to intercept some parts for me from travelers from other States.

Where can these parts be left....

    It can't be somebody’s trunk.

One in particular asked what Jacobs Dealer it is, as he must have a few in the Chicago area. (I don't know the answer to that).

If You or anybody is willing to help someone out, A fellow 02 er. Is there any booth or place that I can have a fellow car addict drop off some parts and I could get them. He will arrive a day earlier than the show, drop the parts off and I will pick them up whenever the date the show is on…

I will be down there the day of the show but, is there a place (trusted) that can have parts left off there and they will be there the day of the show….These aren’t BMW parts. They are for other projects I have going on…

If you or anybody reading this can help me out, It would be much appreciated.

I’m trying to turn this into a car show, Find a Kugelfischer mechanic (that can work on my car at a later date). and a parts run at the same time. Also trying to show the Lady that I’m bringing down to the windy city, a good time….

    Thank you for your efforts….

    Joel.

  15. I am so, so sorry to hear the news. I met Dan at Oktoberfest 2002 in Colorado, and I will always remember him coming up to me when we were about to begin the Mt Evans drive and saying" I was told I should go on this because it might get interesting" Crusty was one of only 4 cars on the drive, which really puts Loveland Pass to shame. After about 50 miles on the highway, we stopped and he wondered what it was all about. I told him to wait, and he got the climb of his life, as well as some great photos.

    Thanks Dan, we'll miss you.
