  1. My dad and I did it a couple of years ago, a full resto on the car, everything was done in the garage. It's defenetly doable, I mean you need a LOT of patience but you can end up with a pretty damn good result if you're really up for the challenge. There are some precautions you must take first: -First remove everything that could get scratched or painted over during the process, side moldings interior trims, windows, headlamps, grill, everything. -You will need Really good lighting in order to spot out all the places that need "smoothing" before the paint. -A good compressor, so that you won't have to wait for it to charge up between the paint strokes. -Try to use a good turbo like fan to get all the dust and paint mist out of the garage during the process to avoyd any kind of contamination on the finish. -Remember when painting to do long strokes and in the case of the hood/bonnet roof and trunk to do it with continuous long strokes from side to side. By this I mean if you look at the car from the front and lets say you're painting the right side you do the stroke till you get to the center of the car then walk around and finish that stroke on the other line while the paint is still fresh, do this for the whole car. Do NOT paint one half of the car and then the other since you're gonna end up with a kind of "phantom" like line across the middle of the whole car. -Lots and lots of PATIENCE Thats pretty much it... remember the better the quality of the products you use the better the quality of the finish so keep in mind that when buying the paint/bondo. Hope it helps Cheers! Bruce.
  2. So let me see If I got it right, these ones don't go with the plastic covers? So when installed the head of the screwes are actualy visible? If thats the case I would love to see if someone has a picture of these installed to check them out. Thanks a lot Delia!!
  3. Thanks for the quick come back mate!!! I'll try to get them then... Cheers!
  4. I found these latches and I think the would be a really neat replacement for my old ones (the previous owner installed the ones from the e21 black plastic ones)... Anyway, tell me what you guys think... PS: I think with these ones I'm gonna have to get the white plastic caps to cover the screwes, right?
  5. Uhh good one I loved the M10 badge idea, I think it would look really neat I'll see what I can come up with... Thnx for the help! Cheers!
  6. Is there anyithing I can use on the valve cover to take advantage of this part? some kind of usefull sensor or anything on my ti so that it looks a bit better and not as if something was missing...? Ideas? Heres the picture with what im talking about... http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,download/id,20157/[/url]
  7. Ok, being all this said, can I put it to use with something, some kind of sensor or something so that it doesen't look like something is missing? Trying to make it look a bit nicer, something useful for the ti?
  8. Ok, got it... but then... can I put it to use on my ti any sensor or something so that to fill that void and make it look a bit nicer?
  9. Hey I was checking some powder coated valve covers an I came across this one, the thing is that mine doesent have de wierd looking screw on thingy that seats on the side next to the vapor vent output. What is it that goes there? Pardon my ignorance its just that here in Uruguay I've never seen that before... Well that said... cheers! Bruce.
  10. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130202415205&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI They look quite tempting but... will they fit a stock block with no modifications???
  11. You're absolutely right, I just saw the wite needle... And yes you're also right it is ZUB-ZERO cool! (as jeremy clarkson would say) By the way what were the upgrades you're car had (work done by Alpina) apart from the ridiculously cool cockpit?? Let me know... Cheers! Bruce
  12. Wait a sec the tach needle is also orange, i didnt see that coming... was the fuel/temp also orange? (the speedo is white though...) Jeff you are officialy my new IDOL! Thanx a lot!!!
  13. Ok guys another of my ubnoxious posts... I'm on the "get as many parts as you can" part of my engine rebuild and im going for upgrades (yeey!)... I thinking of installing the following elements: -Original 300° Factory Cam -Double Valve Springs -H Beam rods -Rocker Arm/Shaft -Stainless Steel Valves, (bigger valve set 2mm+ intake, 1mm+exhaust) -High Comp Forged Pistons I found these on ebay and was wondering wether If they would fit or not ... J&E 89M forged 92mm pistons, they come with total seal rings 11:1 CR Bore - 3.622 Dome - .34 Comp Height - 1.653 Forging 89M Pin Dia - .866 Pin Length 2.500 Now the thing is that after thinking a while what should I do with the bottom end? The engine is stock and I was wondering wether it would hold a setup like this being 40 years old and everything... (obviously changing the usual...) will the stock crank take it?
  14. Perdona que tarde tanto para responder, me acabo de dar cuenta que habia un post nuevo I'm 19 years old, I currently live here in montevideo and I own a 1968 2002ti (el modelo mas viejo con todo el tablero con los switches chicos y todo el cromo bajo el tablero a lo largo de la consola) with some alpina upgrades, the car belonged to my grand father and on 2003 my dad, my grandpa and me "almost" completely restored it (i say almost because im missing just a few details some tweaking needed). For my surprise when I turned 18 my grandfather gave me the car as my birthday present (that deffenetly was the best gift I've ever receved). I'm currently about to start a complete engine rebuild and im hoping to have her back up and running for next summer... Thats pretty much it... currently studing and always taking apart and puting back together the car... I suppose that for some day near the year 2548 I'll finish her Well Paulo un gusto ver gente de aca por estos pagos, keep in touch! Abrazo, Bruce
  15. Mine has the three dashes across the shelf area and im really scared on having to modify the dash I mean its the 3 piece dash and its in PERFECT condition, so im thinking of putting the gauges o the console so I wont have to cut anything... Hope this helps... :S
  16. Everyone thnxs for the feedback! I did know that the becker was commonlly seen on mercedes specially the pagoda. The thing is, my 02 has the early type interior, the one with the small dash switches and all the chrome trimming under the dash, taking that to consideration the becker fits better the interior, but on the other hand the blaupunkt though it doesent look as good as the becker is the original one thats the cause of my dilemma. If my 02 had the newer kind of dash I would go for the blaupunkt straight up... Cheers, Bruce
  17. I'm wanting to buy a radio for the 02 and cant make my mind, the options are: Becker Mexico (stereo with the magic bar search system and cassette) or a original Blaupunkt Bavaria Mono radio with the attached speaker grill to the front in perfect condition. What do you guys think? Cheers, Bruce
  18. Great then, thanks Jeff!, was thinking of installing a set of gauges and originally thought of installing the "Series 1" VDO gauges (just because the needle was white like the ones on the dash) but then I gave it a little thought and I think it would look actually better using the original style gauges, the only thing im not sure is where to install them, wether to install them like the alpina had them next to the original cluster or to put them in the center console, the first I think would require to do some modification to the dash... Tell me what you think... Bruce
  19. Thnx Jeff that sounds great! and yes I also think that an extra water temp gauge is kinda useless. Back to the gauges do you remember how they looked like? (color, etc..)
  20. I had already seen this pictures before, but I wasn't sure wether they were the original gauges or not because they look like the ones from the VW Rabbit (& Cabrio) and the Golf MK1 (& Cabrio) and I have seen these previously installed on other 02's. As for the color of the needles the VW's are almost all of them kinda orange and through the years the color starts to fade due to sun expsure (you can see this on the E-Bay alpina). The earlyer style VW gauges where a darker orange almost red and inclouded a clock in stead of the Anyway I don't know, tell me what you think guys... Check out the VW vdo gauges here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-Rabbit-VDO-Center-Console-with-VDO-Gauges_W0QQitemZ370026466537QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item370026466537 Faded... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-Console-Gauge-Cluster-Rabbit-GTI-Cabriolet-Diesel_W0QQitemZ150219629956QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150219629956 Early Style... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VDO-MINI-GAUGE-SET-CLOCK-OIL-PRESSURE-AMPS_W0QQitemZ200202867321QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200202867321
  21. Hi everyone, im trying to figure out what did the aux-gage cluster placed next to the dash incloude in the Alpina 02 (3 extra gauges). From what I could see it looks like Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and a Clock (please correct me if im wrong). Please if anyone has pictures of them or has ever seen them, could you tell me how they actually look?? (for example: needle color, etc) Thanks! Cheers, Bruce
  22. Merry X-Mas to all you guys here and an even better happy new year. I'm gonna take a moment here to try and express my gratitude for helping me out with all the different subjects through this year, its good to know that there's still people out there who give without expecting nothing in return, people who help out no strings attached. Its a wonderful thing we've got working here and I hope it never ends! Seriously guys I wish you the merryest of X-Mas and an awesome new year! Cheers, Bruce PS: Remember that if there is anything I can help out with just let me know
