  1. It took me a long time to use tapatalk, but once I signed up for it I checked it 8 or 10 times a day. Tapatalk encouraged me to participate much more in in the FAQ and fortunately, or unfortunately led to many purchases for parts that I would not have otherwise made. Apparently I missed Steve’s request for comments on Tapatalk or I would have strongly expressed my use of the app. I miss tapatalk and would encourage that the FAQ sign up for its use again. My mailbox is so full of useless emails that I have to spend a long time cleaning up my mailbox.

  2. It is amazing to see the prices for cars with questionable VIN’s. It makes those of us with matching VINS on all 4 places as built feel good about our cars although I doubt most of our great 2002’s will ever sell for this kind of money.

I am surprised that no one has discussed the Schwartz 72 tii with 5 speed also currently listed on BAT.

Someone has spent BIG BUCKS on this car with good Metric Mechanic stuff, but the body integrity appears to be questionable.

It looks like an unfinished project car.

Photos of the body before the driver quality repaint would help a lot for determining value.

  3. Interested.

I installed H&R springs on my ‘76 with bilstein Sports and liked them a lot.

What did you replace the H&R’s with?

    what shocks?

i am currently running Miller and Norburn springs with Bilstein Sports shocks.

  4. Yes, you will need the water bypass piping as you are replacing the entire intake manifold.

You will also need a tii or e21 water manifold to replace the one you currently have installed as yours has a fitting to connect back to the intake that is not needed.

I tried some of the linkage workarounds described but ended up using the TEP linkage. With those linkages, gas was either on or off and power came on so quickly it was scary.

Installing the TEP linkage is just like installing brakes on a bicycle. You just need to shorten the cable housings about half to reduce cable length and all will be well.

    Have fun!

  5. You don’t want to add it up.
It will scare you to death!

Prices for nice 2002 parts are going straight up.
Back in the days of BMW MOBIL TRADITION, you could actually buy individual fasteners for a few cents. Now you have to buy at least 10, 20 or more and the price has gone up considerably.

Belt line trim was $160 for a complete set. Now it is $160 a piece X 10 pieces and they don’t fit.

Prices for high demand items like mud flaps and Euro or Italian Turn signals and Horn buttons have gone thru the roof.

With prices this high for nice spare parts, it would almost be cheaper sometimes to buy from BAT than build it.

  6. Yes it is cheaper. It cost me about $100/50 Euro. For the conversion.

My radiator guy brought the fitting straight out and up to clear the compressor, not to the side like the W&N radiator.

He also painted the radiator with the standard gloss black mixture of enamel and gasoline.

i have since cleaned the glossy paint off and repainted with Eastwood Satin black radiator paint.

i have some clearance issues so I gave not installed my radiator yet. The W&N radiator is a little thicker than my current E21 radiator and the fan would hit the radiator on the passenger side.  I plan to install the radiator in the spring.

if I cannot get clearances, My new and modified radiator will be up for sale.

  7. Merry Christmas!
I ordered a W&M Radiator and had it modified by a local shop so it would fit around my AC Compressor.
I would recommend ordering the correct Radiator for AC. Although it costs more, I think you will be happier in the long run.

  8. Nice engine!

As mentioned in the discussion of the ‘73 M2 on BAT, the car should have a limited slip differential and upgraded sway bars.

This car has some very nice parts, however for this kind of money the package should be complete and mechanically and cosmetically perfect.

The trunk looks like it was painted with a brush and POR-15. Maybe the current owner has so much $$ invested in the car that he just can’t complete it with current resources.

I guess the new owner can complete the project with a few extra bucks.

The Pastelblau ‘75 also currently listed with this car on BAT has had some serious work and money put into it in the last few years and at $8000 is currently a bargain.

I wish the best for the sellers and buyers of both cars.

  9. Check out photo #217 of the left frame rail.

It looks like a poor patch job or Bondo.  The car looks like it needs a needs a new left frame rail.

With the body work done in Rochester NY and having lived near Rochester for 4 years, I would be VERY concerned that this is a refurbished what we called a WINTER RAT.
I would be afraid that paint is hiding a LOT of ROAD SALT DAMAGE.

    Beautiful paint!

Maybe this car will set a new price standard for 2002’s.

I hope I can sell my ‘02 for this kind of $$ someday.
