  1. To answer a couple of the questions:

Centercaps are just the standard E30 ones that Blunt ordered for me, didn't honestly know there were multiple options. Curious to know what the "Euro" ones are that were referred to.

As for suspension. I run Koni's all around. GC coilovers and caster/camber plates up front on shortened struts. In the rear are Ireland Stage IIs. Tires are Falken Azenis 615k's.

Oh, and the Momo wheel also was ordered thru good old Blunt.

Good to hear some love for Sahara after all.

  2. With all the talk lately of Sahara being such an "ugly" color, decided it was an appopriate time to take some photos of my car with it's new wheels. I've been running 15" Superlights for a few years, and decided to mix it up at least for a little while with some steelies. While at it I also put on a nice Momo Prototipo steering wheel. Thanks to Blunt for the parts, of course. Agreed that Sahara is subtle and perhaps not as exciting as an Inka or something, but it has really grown on me over the years.

  3. FWIW: I've used the stock S14 head gasket with no overheating issues for the last three years. I've done everything from numerous track days to being stuck in stop and go traffic on hot days. I can't counter the comments on how the two gaskets flow, but can at least tell you I've not had problems. The only thing I did "special" was drill small holes on the bottom of the E12 head to line up with the cooling passages on the S14 gasket in between the cylinder bores. Ordinarily, an M10 does not flow coolant in this same area. Tom

  4. My car is stored outside 365 days a year. Usually it has a cover on it, but after rain, I remove the cover pretty promptly to dry the car off so as not to trap moisture in there. I must be honest and say I was pretty disapointed with the BavAuto "Ultimate" cover. After less than a year the elastic around the bottom had lost all elasticity, and certain parts of the fabric seemed to lose water repelling ability very quickly. I called BavAuto, but since I did not have my receipt (admittedly my fault) they would do nothing for me. In my opinion, it was not a very good cover for the $160 or so I spent on it.

  5. This was my second Lemons race, and it was great to see so many familiar faces from the FAQ at the track. Our Green and plaid "Jackie Stewart Has a Posse" 280zx was performing beautifully until around 1pm on Sunday when we sheered the left rear stub axle and had to retire while running 40th. Bummer, but such is life. Here are a few more photos. One thing I've learned from the two races I've done is that you CANNOT judge a book by it's cover at this race. Some cars which look like they'd be dogs are extremely fast (the "Rodent" Honda, for example which must have some sort of motorcycle engine and transmission in it), and the opposite is also just as true. photo.jpgIMG_2863.jpgIMG_2869.jpgIMG_2856.jpgIMG_2847.jpgIMG_2849.jpgIMG_2840.jpgIMG_2837.jpg

  6. He did the bottom end on my stroker motor 2 1/2 years ago and it has been rock solid. He also handled the communication with Irelend Engineering for me to spec the appropriate pistons as I wasn't sure of all the technical jargon. He's a no nonsense fellow, but perfectly nice and did what seemed to be good quality work, on time, and for a reasonable price.

  7. Obviously I'm not 100% positive (or I wouldn't be asking the question) but I don't think it's the tires. Until a couple of weeks ago I was running 205/50/15s, but then recently put on some 195/60/14s. The sound seems identical with both wheel set ups, and there is no evident rubbing anywhere on the tires, rims, suspension points, or the body itself. In other words, right now I don't believe it's wheel related, but I haven't ruled out the bearings. Keep the ideas come though...

As for the camera it's a Contour+ with an external mic.

  8. Thanks CD, the stub axles are not something I would have thought of. The guibo is relatively new and in good visual condition, as is the center support bearing which is maybe five years old. I'll try your suggestion of turning a bit to load different sides. And yes, I know the sound would be better with the windows closed but I was actually intentionally testing the off camera mic under the worst case scenario and ended up being pretty happy with how little wind noise it picked up ( I also made a little foam sock to go over the mic.) thanks again.

  9. I've been hearing a "whirring" sound in my car recently that I'm trying to pinpoint. My guess at this point is that it is something to do with the transmission. It changes a bit in tone and sound with rpms, does not go away if I put in the clutch pedal, and is not simply tire noise.

Excuse my lack of video making skills, this is the first one I've ever done one and hence the first time I've ever posted on YouTube. I don't have a clue how to edit or I would have made it shorter. However, during the slow moving freeway section (around 1:25) you can hear the sound I'm referring to. I mounted a mic right under the dash thinking it would pick up sound from the transmission tunnel, not taking into account it would also pick up some sounds from stuff bouncing around in the glovebox. Woops. You can also hear a slight whistle at a couple of points under acceleration, and this one is something to do with the ITBs I put on recent, need to figure that one out too.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. I have a set of very nice Bottlecaps for sale. These were purchased new by the previous owner of my car in the early 2000's and only ever used for track days and getting back and forth to the track. I'd guess they have less than 30 days of use on them total. I see one small patch of clear-coat coming off of one of them, but other than that they look very clean. $100/set. Would prefer a local pick-up in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I also have a Suede Momo steering wheel with horn button. $75/shipped

  11. Last night my family and I bid a very sad but fond farewell to our wonderful old dog (and my namesake on the FAQ) Grover, he was almost 15 years old. Grover was one of the kindest souls I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and a wonderful big brother figure to my now 7 year old son. He will be sorely missed by the Richardson family. RIP my friend.

  12. Hi guys. Couple of parts to sell. A working heater valve: $45 shipped

A Momo suede rimmed steering wheel. Outside diamter is about 13.5" or 340mm. The suede is in good condition but not really "fuzzy" any more as a result of use. Includes horn button but not a hub: $100 shipped. Reply here or email me. Price reduced to $80.

Edit: heater valve is SOLD. Make me a good offer on the wheel if I'm out of line on price.

  13. Has anybody successfully run without a center console, and with decent looking carpet underneath? All the carpets I've seen have a slit toward the front of the transmission tunnel. Curious if there is a carpet pattern which let's you get away with having a solid piece of carpet all the way up the tunnel, and hence allow you to run without a console but still look nice. Thanks.

  14. There have already been some good responses which I largely agree with. Planning with MS I found was a key to a nice clean install, in addition to not getting overwhelmed during the process.

My guess, for a fairly basic setup with the 318 intake, would be about $1000. I agree that you sacrifice the cool look and sound of carbs, especially side drafts, this was partially the reason I've recently moved to ITBs. Still a lot of tuning to do, but they're fun indeed.
