Bump....thanks for all your efforts Jeff and John. Talk up the SoCal to BayArea Caravan this weekend. Great job getting us on the grass.
-
here are links to local TV coverage of Day before Bimmerfest this AM. Could be some of our "FAQers" here.
-
I'm going up on Friday too... but will be leaving later... as in midnight or 1AM. We'll get in at around, 6:00, have breakfast then head over to Brisbane.
Anyone wanting to join this 1-car caravan, let me know.
I think we will stay near the San Jose airport friday nite, meet Daniel and gang for drinks, appetizers and maybe dinner. regroup with the south bay guys for a caravan up to Brisbane in the AM. I will let you know where we are staying. maybe you could join us for breakfast, or if you get in early enough, you might catch a catnap and then breakfast.
-
Call me when you get up here and lets grab dinner.
We can have some appetizers and drinks at my place!
Got your text, Daniel....Sounds great, we will have to make this happen...to be continued.

I was planning on taking the 02 with me when I was "raptured". I figured I have to hold onto the steering wheel real tight....otherwise, enjoy it, I will be in a better place....I really do want to get to the Bay Area show again though.

After missing the last 4 years, I am going to make it to the Swap & Show
Need to start the dialogue on caravan plans to the BayArea02 show from Southern California. I will be leaving from Santa Barbara sometime after lunch on Friday 5/20.(would like to get to the Bay Area before dark) I would be happy to arrange a gathering point here for those coming from South of here, and then we could all head up 101 together.
Are you thinking about going? Do we need to arrange Bay Area housing, share hotel rooms, etc? I have some leads on discount stays in Intercontinental Hotel Group hotels (Holiday Inn, HI express, Staybridge Suites, etc)
Let the planning start NOW....Email or post here.
Caravans are the best part.......

For all the rest of the procrastinators (like me) today (Sun 5/8 11:59 pm PST) is the last day to register online, at reduced rates, for the Bay Area 02 Swap and Show on 5/21. You can register later at the event, but it will cost ya a few more bucks. http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.advert/uidEvent/41DBA63E-D925-E5F9-1A4F191D774990D2

There is a label below the back seat which should have the interior codes. If you are lucky its still there.
Thank you, but using all the info I have gleaned from the info available I am pretty sure my seats are #S0001 on the 1974 brochure, which I believe is Part #51-92-1-828-194 schwarz rippencord. You can run that number through your MT database and see if it is still available and how much $, and how soon can we get.
Thanks
Hey just checked it's NLA.
Thank you for checking, guess I will have to find alternatives...

found our own thread with part numbers. Now if we could find which part # matches which pattern, then we are set.
-
I'd see if one of these is what you're looking for. Kinda herd to get a sample though?
Thanks Tom, we are getting closer..
-
need to replace the seat fabric in the touring. It is sorta black corduroy. Any leads?? Or, something close.
it is the S0001 pattern in this chart.
-
Great tip. Approx how much $
Thanks
-
It is getting a little too syrupy in here....
-
I've thought about making one for each year and handing them out at Swap and Show but haven't had the time....
Matthew
If you did, I would be first in line....great collection.

Another Knopfler racing song:"Speedway at Nazareth"
Lyrics:
After two thousand came two thousand and one
To be the new champions we were there for to run
From springtime in arizona 'til the fall in monterey
And the raceways were the battlefields and we fought
'em all the way
Was at phoenix in the morning I had a wake-up call
She went around without a warning put me in the wall
I drove long beach, california with three cracked vertebrae
And we went on to indianapolis, indiana in may
Well the brickyard's there to crucify anyone who will not learn
I climbed a mountain to qualify I went flat through the turns
But I was down in the might-have beens an old pal good as died
And I sat down in gasoline alley and I cried
Well we were in at the kill again on the milwaukee mile
And in june up in michigan we were robbed at belle isle
Then it was on to portland, oregon for the g. i. joe
And I'd blown off almost everyone when my motor let go
New england, ontario we died in the dirt
Those walls from mid-ohio to toronto they hurt
So we came to road america where we burned up the lake
But at the speedway at nazareth I made no mistake

I could drive across the country listening to Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) Many of his songs are about cars, trucks, or racing. Great rhythms and quirky lyrics. Fantastic guitar player.
try this one:
Lyrics:
Southern bound from Glasgow town, she's shining in the sun
My Scotstoun lassie , on the border run
We're whistling down the hillsides and tearing up the climbs
I'm just a thiever, stealing time
In the Border Reiver.
Three hundred thousand on the clock and plenty more to go
Crash, box and lever she needs the heel and toe
Shes not to cold in winter but she cooks me in the heat
I'm a six foot driver but you can adjust the seat
in the Border Reiver
Sure as the sunrise, that's what they say about the Albion
Sure as the sunrise, that's what they say about the Albion
She's an Albion, she's an Albion
The misistry dont worry me my paperworks alright
They can't touch me, I got my sleep last night
Its knocking out a living wage in nineteen sixty nine
I'm just a thiever, stealing time
In the Border reiver.
Sure as the sunrise, that's what they say about the Albion
Sure as the sunrise, that's what they say about the Albion
She's an Albion, she's an Albion

Dental Laboratory owner and technician. Make crowns, bridges, implants, veneers, etc. for Dentists. Started in 1969 and still at it. One man laboratory, all hand work. "Hobby with a deadline" Love the work, but can be very stressful trying to fabricate custom work in a limited time.
Pretty cool deliver vehicle though...2THWAXR
part of the manufacturing process is to "Wax-up" a crown, prior to casting it in gold. Hence, toothwaxer.

just spent 4 days up the beach at Watersound (family wedding). Yeah, very nice place. Still sorta like Santa Barbara though...

Thanks so much dude. How did you fix it? Just ad the [/img]?
yep..nice pics though.

Welcome Beck. fixed your pics so everyone doesn't have to keep clicking on them. Looks like at least 100K on the car. Nice car, should be fun fixing it up.
Hi everyone,My name is Beck and I am the proud new owner of a American-spec '74 2002 Tii Malaga. My love for retro euro cars was sparked by my first car I owned in high school, an 87 Alfa Romeo Milano.
I currently still own an '89 E30 cabrio that I use as my daily driver, but I've always wanted to get into the 60's or 70's euro cars.
I am a freelance photojournalist in San Francisco, CA, and I have a lot of free time to work on the new car.
My plan right now is to keep/return it to entirely stock. Even though it has the big bumpers (which I think are ugly) I don't think I will shrink them or swap them out for pre-74's. I may be temped to add round fog lamps to the front grill. Were those ever a stock option?
(couldn't get the photo attachments to work so here are links to a bunch of photos on my server)
Left rear brake light is not working. New bulb didn't fix it so must be a wiring issue:
Odometer only says 4936 miles. Engine runs incredible smooth so I'd like to think that it is true.
4936 - In my dreams
104936 - possible
204936 - also possible
Only rust (I have found) is a small spot on the front bumper. But the windshield could really use replacing. Two small cracks and the gasket is cracked everywhere:
I have already made a long list of projects for the car. First of which to flush all the fluids, change all the filters and do a brake job.
Turn signals don't work so I have to figure that out. Also none of the doors lock. Gonna have to find new cylinders I guess.
Engine starts up and runs very solid. I have no intention to hack it or soup it up. Want to keep it original for however long the car gods will let me:
A poorly done respray must have been done in the past. You can see the difference between original Malaga in the engine bay (top) and the faded crap paint (bottom):
Factory installed electric sunroof. How rare are these? Doesn't work right now so not sure how hard finding a rebuilt motor will be.
Interior is in pretty great shape but the 320i (I think) seats desperately need to be restuffed:
Original badge:
Do any of you guys know if those orange fog lights were a stock option?
I see many '02's with square fogs below the front bumper but none with orange covers.
Also note the E30 rims. (coincidentally the same exact rims on my E30).
Thanks for looking!
