Inexpensive air cleaner upgrade

For those that are not purists and run aftermarket air cleaners:

Both Weiand and Edlebrock sell a low profile foam air cleaner that is more or less triangular in shape and which is meant for 4 barrel Holley carburators. If you take a piece of flat sheet steel and cut out a hole in it that will fit over the throats of your down draft Webber you can then trim the outside of the sheet metal to fit inside the base of that unit. You can center your hole over the larger hole that was intended for the 4 barrel. Put a little silicone rubber under it, drill holes at the corner and rivit it down and it will then fit on the Webber and will not buzz or leak air around the bottom. It has about 4X the surface area of the little air cleaners that come with the Webber kits when you buy it, is acutually a bit lower, and the replacement elements are around $10 at most hot rod shops. Even if you prefer your origional air cleaner you can buy this foam and trim it down to size to renew your origional element. No one on the internet wants to sell you just the foam.
