engine and drivetrain 2 questions

First:

I have recently aquired a european version 518i - The car is in fairly rough shape and I may just end up parting it out.

If I do I will have a 1.8 litre high compression engine and 5 sp transmission available.

Has anyone ever done a transplant of this type into an 02?

I realize that this is a smaller engine.....but I believe the european variant of the 1.8 is about 150 hp.

Thoughts?

Second:

Sources for a centerlink and a steering box for a 1974....I know there are a bunch of places....but what are your reccommendations?

Is it similar to the 1.8 in the e30 318i? What year is the 518? Probably the motor would fit OK, and might be a nice match in a 2002. What FI system is it, L-Jet? I'd be surprised if they got an honest 150hp out of that 1.8; the later twincam 1.8 M42 motor was rated at less than 140hp with over 10:1 compression.
