LSD Conversion Kit 8mm bolts question

Recommended Posts

I installed my new 3.90 lsd with the spacers. Upon installation I realized that the 8 8MM bolts that fasten the CV joints to the hub, were the same length as the original bolts. After inserting the spacer, the new bolts were not long enough to stick threw allowing the nuts to fasten. Is this a problem? Will the bolts hold? Should I seek out some longer bolts?

Thanks

Christian

That depends, because there are a few ways this can be done.

It all depends on what was done to the flanges, and which CV's you're using.

If your flanges are threaded and the bolts for the CV's thread all the way through the flange and then stop, that's fine- it's the way the later flanges work.

But if your flanges are unthreaded, you'll need to use nuts. There's not really enough space for nuts on the back of the E30 flanges, so you'll have to be really careful to get bolts just long enough. I had one tapped hole strip out, so I used one nut- it always polished up the bolt heads on the side of the case!

Loctite won't hurt you at all. I don't, but I'm changing diffs on a regular basis. On a street car, loctite and getting them nice and snug should be fine.
