H2O pump gasket sealant goop: How much of what type?

So I'm up to installing the new pump, but "instalation is reverse of above" doesn't really answer everything.

Do I use a) just a enough to stick the gasket to the pump, a little more than that, or 3) enough to squish out when the bolts are tightened?

And do I put it on both sides of the gasket or just between the gasket and the pump?

Is blue RTV OK?

don't use any sealant. There are 2 types. 1 is a paper thin one. That is junk. Then there is a 1mm thick one that works great. That what you need.

Hi Paul. Just enough blue RTV to keep the gasket stuck to the pump is plenty. No real need to coat the other side. Oh, and ispropyl works well to get the RTV off your fingers...
