Thrash'd mister Guibo!

So, I finally got around to doing some stuff to my car (project blog) which included a much needed tuneup. I took it for a spin around the block and that little 1.6 liter has some kick to it. Only problem was that when I threw it into second and gave it some gas, I heard a machine gun sound underneath the car. The next day I looked under the car and I saw that my guibo was just in shambles. I picked up a new one and got ready to put it in.

Here is my question, I have the sliding type driveshaft that has 3 guibos (instead of guibo/driveshaft/u-joint/driveshaft/u-joint/ etc) In order to get my old flex disk off, will removing the center bearing support allow me to get the clearance I need since it wont bend like a U-joint?

Thanks in advance

That happened to me one time to! I know what a guibo is and what it does, but i've always wondered what component of the driveline it actually protects?
