We've been blasted by spammers lately. Requiring signup should reduce the amount of spam we've seen.

the beta test site is up and we're trying out a few mods that should slow down the spammers.

Good to hear, they've been relentless lately. The funny part is that most of the posts are nothing but garbage.

well the mod is on and all it does is ask a user to say they are a human being. I made a post parameter that changes daily, so any of the off-the-shelf bots won't be able to post without some very clever reprogramming.

I'm pretty sure its bots hitting us.. in fact, the forum links on the front page FAQ entries seem to be the ones that get most of the action as of late -- probably culled from a web crawl or something.

So hopefully that'll slow em down
