back on an m20? I understand the possibility of loosing something important is a factor I was just thinking out loud. When I cleaned up my dirty engine the guards seemed to hold oil and junk, and for some reason I really like a clean engine, helps me diagnose a leak or a problem before it gets too big.

Good point, I can see working on a running engine and something slipping and jingle of destruction routine on an otherwise good engine and head.

And knowing Murphy and my background that would be the first thing to happend to me.

....ONLY DUCATI's timing belts run NAKED.

The timing belt cover prevents junk working into the belt teeth and gear teeth, or worse - your neighbors cat limbs!!!! replace the covers, fix the leaks, button up.
