Sealing Gaksets - Is ULTRA GREY really ULTRA?

The use of Ultra Grey silicon will make your engine leak. Use a quality sealant such as Wurth Orange Flange sealant. If you choose to use an RTV type sealant, use something from Victorenz or something German that will not leak. If you must use a generic Silicon from an auto parts store, our shop finds that Permatex "Red" RTV works well.

silicon is what they use to make computer chips- it's also a valley in California.

silicone is what they use to make RTV sealants, Pam Anderson's tits, Ivana Trumps lips, etc.

The statement "silicon will make your engine leak" is BS.

That said, Silicone RTV sealants are WAY overused, usually by hack or inexperienced mechanics- but when it's used properly and sparingly- it's pretty good stuff. Most BMW gaskets should not be used with any type of sealant anyway.

Fact... oil attacks any silicone based sealant. Fact... some have done more heatgaskets and frontcovers than others. Fact...some people like to gamble with 1960"s technology,....you live and learn,...use ultragray on your chevy oil pan or intake gasket.

Fact....posts made by people who use their real name (or their usual nickname) are worth 10000000x posts made by anonymous pud-whackers.

That is all.
