I acquired this 1976 BMW 2002 approximately two years ago and was lightly refurbished and modified. Work included refinishing the body in Oxygen blue over blue upholstery in addition to overhauling the 2.0-liter M10 inline-four and four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ BBS-style wheels, front disc brakes, aftermarket stereo system, Kicker subwoofer & Blaupunkt amp, Weber two-barrel carburetor, a front air dam, HELLA driving lights, bolstered front bucket RECARO seats, and an aftermarket steering wheel. This BMW 2002 is offered with a clean California title in my name.

The car was said to have been disassembled, stripped, and repainted by the previous owner. This looks to be an amateur paint job as there are imperfections throughout the body. From a distance, the body/paint look good; however upon a closer more detailed inspection, the blemishes are shown.

Gold 15″x 7 BBS-style (ROTA) alloy wheels are mounted with 195/50 Kumho Ecsta tires. The brake system utilizes power front discs and rear drums.

The interior has been refurbished and features an aftermarket double DIN Universal Autoradio stereo system with bluetooth capability. The front seats have been upgraded to Recaro LXA seats. The front seat upholstery is slightly lighter in shade compared to the door panels and rear seats. Additional appointments include a heater and defroster, three-point front seat belts, and hand-crank side windows. All gauges are in working order (Tach, Speedo, Fuel Gauge, & Temp). There are two cracks along the dashpad. The vehicle comes with 3 keys; 1 - Engine and door lock, 2 - Trunk, 3 - Fuel cap.

Vehicle drives immaculately. The manual steering is tight and precise. Recently had an alignment and drives straight as an arrow. The engine has never overheated on me, even when idling in 100 degree Southern California weather. Transmission shifts very smooth; it does have a very high engagement point (not sure if this is normal or needs attention, but I am including an additional clutch with the sale). Headlights work, high beam functinal, interior light dimmer and turn signals all operative. Drives smooth on the highway, and cruises around 3,500rpm at 70mph. Windows all open/close accordingly, as do the doors, trunk and hood.

Horn does not work; however, the horn is mounted, just needs to be wired to the steering wheel. The passenger side winshield washer nozzle is kinked and does not spray properly. Rear taillights are dull and can use a good buff or replacement. Passenger side kickpanel speaker is not cleanly mounted to the door panel. As mentioned, the paint and body are not ideal, however, the sale includes a fender flares and a turbo style spoiler; I planned to address the paint/body when I installed the flares and wing.

Additional parts that come with the sale of the vehicle include original style Weber 40 side draft carburetors. The kit includes an electrical fuel pump, fuel pump cover plate, and linkages. Included in the sale is also an extra clutch, and Zender/turbo style rear spoiler and turbo flares & air dam hardware kit. Black powder coated race-style Headers ( I believe Ireland Engineering?). Service papers, registrations dating back to the 80s, and user manual all included in the sale.

Reason for Selling: When I purchased the vehicle I had every intention to keep the car for years, install the dual draft Webers, the fender flares, and spoiler and re-do the paint; however, my prioritizes will always lie with my family. My wife needs a surgery in the near future, and the medical bills will soon be piling up. This was my first 2002, and I hope it isn't my last as I plan to re-join the 2002 family again in the future. Not in any crazy hurry to sell the car as it'll be a few months until those medical bills start to show up.

I'm trying to be 100% clear with my description and sale of the vehicle. As mentioned a couple times before, the car isn't perfect, the paint/body need work, but from a distance she looks good. Drives amazing, and almost everything works and functions as it should. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via text or phone. (818)857-0148 - Matt

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
