DESCRIPTION

This 1976 BMW 2002 is powered by a 2.0-liter Honda F20C inline-four paired with a Honda six-speed manual transmission and is finished in black over black upholstery. Additional modifications are said to include a Volvo front brake kit, upgraded sway bars, custom rear shock mount bracing, Bilstein shocks, and removed door handles. The car was acquired by the seller in 2006 and is equipped with LED headlights, window tint, Recaro front seats, and 15″ alloy wheels. This 2002 is offered in Maryland with a clean Georgia title.

The car was refinished in Super Dark Cherry Brown and exterior details include LED headlights with Laminex tint along with window and taillight tint. The seller states that the driver side quarter glass does not close, and the sunroof does not work. The door handles have been removed and replaced with powered solenoids that do not work, and the car has to be manually unlocked and locked through the vent window. The seller notes that the system requires a replacement remote and solenoids.

Black-painted 15″ alloy wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich and Ironman tires that measure 195/50 and one Doral tire that measures 195/55. Stopping power is provided by a Volvo front brake kit. The suspension is said to be modified with upgraded sway bars, custom rear shock mount bracing, shortened springs, and Bilstein shocks at each corner.

The front Recaro sport seats are upholstered in black leather joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The push-to-start button from the S2000 has been installed. The seller notes that the front passenger seat base is broken, and the window crank handles and interior door handles need to be replaced.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames an instrument cluster from a Honda S2000 that includes a digital speedometer, a tachometer with a 9k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 54k miles, approximately 7,500 of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel gauge does not work.

The replacement 2.0-liter F20C inline-four was sourced from a Honda S2000 and is accompanied by an aluminum radiator, electric radiator fan, and a cone air intake filter. The seller states the battery may need to be replaced due to age, and the engine is in need of an oil change.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Honda six-speed manual transmission. The seller states the transmission tunnel was modified to fit the Honda transmission.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
