Price: $1000
Location: Santa Clarita

Description:

Hey Folks

I’m sad to say I’m giving up on my hope of ever restoring my 4sp 1974 2002 that I have owned since 1985....  I’m selling the car in an auction with no reserve  that is ending on Wednesday July 22 2020.  I hope it’s ok to list the auction site here.  I’m downsizing my woodworking shop and I am selling the car within that woodworking auction.  The car is Lot #90.  There is no reserve and no cost to register or to bid.  It only costs if you are the high bidder. (I had to put a number in the “cost” box here, but $1000 is not the price....  I doubt I’ll get that much but maybe!)

i am the third owner and I bought it In 1985 from a guy in Newport Beach who got it from the original owner. It has been in SoCal it entire life. It is straight, but will need a lot of work to get up and running.  It was originally siennabraun, but I was young and dumb and painted it black.  I parked it in around 2001 with a blown head gasket and never got back to it.  In about 2003 I bought another nearly complete ‘74 2002 and used some of the bits of this car to keep that one running.  Along with the car, I’m including dozens of parts including extra sway bars, a complete new head, 2 radiators including an Ingraham 3-core, original rear license frame light surround, bushings, and other stuff.  There is definitely surface rust issues around the window frame but no rust in the shock towers or other vital spots.  The transmission, clutch and synchros were great when I parked it.  Same with the brakes.  It has Enki wheels on it.

the car is located in Agua Dulce, Ca which is just north of Santa Clarita (where magic mountain is....)

I would love to have the car go to an appreciative owner rather than get scrapped but I have no control over that.  I thought I would let you guys know about it here to give you a chance at grabbing the whole lot for what will probably be a few hundred dollars.  There is no reserve.  It’s free to register and bid.   The auction can be found at www.rlspear.com under the “woodworking auction”

I so much appreciate all the people on here who helped me with my cars over the years!  All the best,

-john

I know you said there is some rust around the window, but how do the floors look? Difficult to see the footwells in the pics. I picked up a cheap project car with bad window rubber once. Price was so good I wasn't expecting much. The tan carpet looked clean, but had a surprise. Can never be too careful. Thanks.

I can assure you they don’t look like that!  I live in a desert, not under Atlantis!

here’s a couple more pictures...  Including the spare tire wheel well which you know is a rust magnet....

if you’d like, I’ll see if I can get under it today and take more to ease your mind...

Thanks for your interest in the car... I’m more than happy to answer any questions.

Unfortunately I didn't win the auction, but it looks like the guy that did has put it up for sale.

wow...  I haven’t been following these cars closely for many years but.....

if anyone is going to pay that much for my old car, they must have pretty deep pockets...  He paid me $2800 thru the auction - maybe he got a great deal?  I figured I’d get <$1000.  It’s very possible I have no idea what these cars are worth anymore!

If anyone on here is looking at it, feel free to reach out to me and I’ll tell you it’s entire history  and what I know to be right and wrong with the car.

take care all!

Gotta love the douchery flippers. He states in his ad that he is moving to AZ otherwise he would keep it yet he just bought it a few weeks ago. Did he not know then he would be moving.  Lame.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
