Staying safe on craigslist

Hi all!

Selling a 2006 530xiT. Put an ad on craigslist, home to so many internet scammers.  A guy emails me and asks for the VIN so he can run a CarFax report.  Seems reasonable but as craigslist is home to so many internet scammers, I'm a bit suspicious.   Is there any compelling reason not to provide the VIN? Don't want to cut off a legitimate sale opportunity, but don't need more headaches either.  Advice?

I think it's likely a valid request.

A lot of sales sites require posting the VIN in the sale ad.

The buyer would possibly need the VIN to get the car insured anyway.

A quick search seems to substantiate my perspective.

Good luck,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P
