Found this info on the above and would like to hear what everyone thinks. If you missed my earlier post, my mechanic recommended thick oil and/or hotter plugs to help prevent a plug fouling problem that had me running on three cylinders last weekend. Titan HV70 is the oil he had in mind. Wadayareckon?

really large (diesel) engines. I would guess that this weight would be suitable for those "truck trains" that y'all use to cross the Outback but unless you're living in a climate where the temp rarely if ever drops below 70 degrees or so, an oil that heavy would have flow problems at startup. And the first few seconds an engine runs generates a disproportionate percentage of its wear.

Ask your mechanic if that 40w-70 oil is for small gasoline engines or big diesels...My'69's engine has a #4 cylinder with a thirst for oil--have to clean the plug about every 4-5k and it does significantly better on 20w-50 than 10w-30. Unfortunately I have to run the thinner oil here in winter, where it can occasionally get below zero F. I did peg my 150 psi gauge one afternoon at -14F when I started the car with 20w-50 oil in it (and yes, it started when friends' cars with EFI wouldn't) Yesssssssss...let's hear it for the old 'uns.
