Sanden A/C Compressor Model Number?

Going to swap out my York Piston compressor for a Sanden rotary. What is the model number that's recommended for our cars. I'd like to stay with R12 as I've still got a few cans.

Most folks go with the Sanden 508 for R12, however due to low demand, Sanden has discontinued R-12 models. This includes the following R-12 compressor series (SD505, SD507, SD508, SD509, SD510, SD708, SD709, TR70, TRF90, and TRF105). There are R134a replacements for the R12 models in most cases. I went with a 709. A little more output. Works fine. I went with R134a.

I recommend changing the expansion valve.

You can still run R12 on the newer compressors.

The difference between R12 or R134 compressors is O ring fittings for R134 vs Flare fittings for the R12.

Some of the older R12 compressors have schrader valve service ports on the back of the compressor too.

So if you want to stay with R12 compatible fittings on a new R134 comressor, you can still do it using O ring to Flare adapters that only cost a few bucks each.

Just make sure you have the correct oil in the compressor for the refigerant to be used. The oil used in R134a systems is not compatible with R12 or the dessicant used in the R12 rec/drier.
