Recaro cover plate plastic trim repair

BMWs use many installations of plastic trim parts that use tangs or prongs that expand into a mounting hole. I recently discovered that the two tangs on the hinge cover plates of my Recaro seats broke off—almost impossible to find usable replacments. Rather than gluing the covers back into place, I tried this fix that would undoubtedly have other applications: simply cut and shave a generic plastic trim retainer (available in autobody shops in many different sizes) and glue it (I used 3M 5200 marine adhesive) onto the trim piece. In this case there was a hole was molded in the back of the cover plate. The photos show the process and the fix is probably better than new. For this application I used Oak Faspac fasteners 1-2347. Hope this is helpful.

But, since it is normally fixed with the side tabs, what does the Trim Retainer shaft plug into?

Btw, this part, Upper Cover - e21 Sport Seat (52101877057 (Lft.) 52101877058 (Rht.) is readily available for about $20. Just sayin'.

If mine were to break the tabs, I'd go your route.

There is a hole in the hinge plate between the two upper mounting bolts.
