  2. Price: $100
    Location: Arvada, CO USA

    Description:

Hi folks, I just passed my tii on to its next owner, and noticed I had a few parts that don't go with the car. If anyone has any interest in any or all of these items, let me know and you can have them for the cost of shipping to you. What I have:

    1. 74 tii clock parts - includes the innards, the clock face, pointers, etc. Not working, as far as I know, but might be useful if you are restoring one...

    2. Set of black basketweave early headrests. Not sure what years.

    3. Early tii timing cover. Note this is the one that has the integrated alternator mount. Has some pitting, but you might be able to clean it up.

First come, first served by contacting me here. I will let you know shipping costs and we can go from there via PayPal.

    Thanks,

    Andy

  3. Hey guys, thanks for all the support - my tii sold for $33K, which met my reserve. Funny - one of the folks watching the auction reached out to me - happens to be the drummer for the group the Old97s, and the guy I bought the car from back in 2000! Brought back some memories, as I bought it based on a post Phil had on the old Roadfly forum, just prior to the dawn of this excellent forum. If you guys don't mind, I will stop in every now and then to check in. This will be my first time without an 02 since 1981!

    Thanks again,

  4. That is great, thank you! Another fun bit of history, not sure if anyone remembers this fellow William who had a tii he called "Tip Top" here, he used to build tii fuel injection tools, I bought some from him, and these will go with the sale. This tii also has a radiator (number 00230) from Curt Ingraham (RIP). Neat stuff.

  5. I am pretty sure my original posts about the car were on the old Roadfly forum, as it took me a while to join this one (I'm member #126).... for a while most folks belonged to both but as I recall there was some sort of "final straw..." It's been great to belong to this forum, though I haven't been on for quite a while.

  6. I actually did very little prep work. The paint was done by a place in Houston called Casari's. Not sure if anyone here would remember Bob Murphy, who started the tii Register, but I got to know him down very well while I lived in Katy, and my car basically followed his car to Casari's and then to BMS (Mike Perkins RIP) for the engine work. He had a Polaris tii with A4 bits on it, had it since new.

You're right - even at the time, that was a pretty good price, given the quality of the work and the fact they used the real-deal Glasurit. Here is a pic when it was at Casari's....

  7. -When it was repainted, what weatherstripping and trim was replaced? All weatherstripping was replaced, windows out, all trim replaced.... but that was 20 years ago, so it's not like new...

-Did you paint the trunk, engine compartment and door jambs at that time as well?  Yes, all done during the resto 2000-2003

-Has anything been done to the interior? Very little, the interior is pretty original

-What condition is the dash in? Has the "usual" cracks, not pristine

-Does it still have the standard four-speed or have you done a five speed swap? Original 4 speed, was rebuilt in 2000

-What, if anything, has been done to the suspension? Original springs, new Bilstein HDs in 2003.

It's funny, I found some old pics from the original resto, see below. I bet I posted a lot of these to this forum back then. I took some time to count up the receipts since I've owned the car, and they add up to a bit over $35k, but I have noticed things were a lot cheaper back then, as an example the paint job was under $5K....

  8. Well folks, I realized just today that since Mark Hutto rebuilt my engine in September 2018, I have put exactly 5,539 miles on it in the intervening almost-4 years. I'm just not driving it enough, so I think it is time to sell....

I bought this car in 2000 on the old Roadfly forum, from a fellow in Dallas, who was the drummer for a group called the Old97s. I am the fourth owner, and I have all the receipts back to the late 80s, when Phil bought it from the second owner. I had it off the road while it was being repainted in the original Turkis glasurit paint, and the engine rebuilt, etc. At that time, the odometer read close to zero, so as far as I could tell it had about 100,000 miles on it. Around 2017, I had the head rebuilt by Mark Hutto out here (I documented that in a blog on this site), and right after that, Mark also did the lower end rebuild.  BTW if anyone is looking for an 02 mechanic in the Denver area, Mark is the best and a great friend to boot.

It's a pretty original tii, with the one major addition being the rims, which are the cool Cromodora mag wheels. This was the original color, repainted in 2002. All the numbers match (2780675). I wanted to get your advice on selling - I think the place most people go to is Bring A Trailer, and I have looked there. Is that the best strategy for maximizing the selling price? I am not sure if Delia is still active on this forum, but I have seen her comments on quite a few 02s there. I don't know exactly where the market is right now, but I would be looking to get at least $30K for it, keeping in mind that this is not an urgent sale.

Let me know your thoughts. In the meantime, if anyone here is interested, contact me on this board.

    Many thanks,

  9. Rob - nice tii! I am in Arvada, and my daughter is in Boulder at CU. If you get to a point where you need somebody to look at it, the one guy I have found in the area who knows tiis is Mark Hutto. He rebuilt my '74tii head and lower end a couple years ago. He knows what he is doing.

    Good luck!

  10. Circa 1980 when I was a ski bum in Steamboat. I had a 74 02 (still remember serial number 4226278) at the time, and this guy in town had a roundie with the greatest license plates. At the time, you could tell which county you lived in in CO by the two letter prefix on the plates - so Routt County was WZ...

  11. That is an amazing find, John! I wish now I had taken a peek at mine, but when we compared notes, I saw we had the same part number, so I have to assume mine has the screen as well. As per above, I did put in a new filter up by the radiator, and also I had cleaned up the tank screen, which was somewhat grungy. Since it had been 20 years since I replaced it, I went ahead and did that as well. Thanks for the advice!

  12. At the same time, I am also changing the filter up by the radiator. I think the original I have is no longer in stock, and I ordered the two seen below. Any experience/recommendations for either one - Hengst or Mann? I use only Mann oil filters, but never this particular fuel filter.

  13. Thanks John! I am following Keith's guidance around keeping that original plug intact - just in case the original pumps come back into production. My update preserves that plug and I will just plug in the spade lugs that will fit in that plug, and use an original rubber cover identical to the one on the other side which should cover it. Looking forward to a quieter and more reliable pump, but preserving the possibility to revert to original if a future owner wants that. My view of all this is that we are just caretakers for future owners.

  14. You mean like this? Ha, I remember reading Keith's article when he first wrote it, so pretty familiar with it. Funny, I found something I posted here in 2002, 18 years ago, asking about the availability of the inlet filter, since mine was missing. Who knows how long, but at least 20 years, as long as I have owned this tii. I should have bought the pump then, I suppose, I think they were around $150, which seemed high to me at the time!

  15. Thanks all for the advice, still moving forward with the 5 series pump.... for those of you who have performed this operation, could you look at these pics to let me know if I have the fuel line routed correctly from the outlet of the pump to the canister? This is how it looked in some other pics but once the install has occurred it is hard to see. the other outlet port from the canister will go to the kugelfischer. Before I bolt it back up and connect the big line from the fuel tank to the front of the pump, I want to make sure I have it right. Thanks,

  16. Hi folks, I am forging ahead with the 5 series fuel pump conversion path for my tii, but I did notice a number of folks have recommended an inline fuel filter - I believe between the gas tank and the inlet on the fuel pump. Is that the correct location and can anyone offer their experience on this - what did you use and where did you locate it?  Many thanks!

  17. Hi folks, it seems like my fuel pump on my 74 tii is about to give up the ghost finally. With the recent hot weather, I came back from a short drive today and it would not hold idle, and was super noisy. So at long last, looking for options. I looked at the Walloth Nesch site and found this:

    https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/fuel-pump-for-2002-tii-turbo-you-need-1-for-1-car-16-06-10.html

Additionally, it appears you can buy the expansion tank as well:

    https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/expansion-tube-16-06-11.html

I thought these things were close to unobtainable, and checking Mesa, their price pump alone is $750. Are the W&N pumps the real deal? I was thinking I would have to go the E28 option, but if these W&N prices are for real, maybe worth it to go that way. Any experience out there with these pumps? Am I missing something?

    Thanks,
