Barney, welcome back. I'm assuming that your stiffener takes the place of the sheet metal plate that would normally sandwich between the inner and out sills (IIRO, the full cabs had a, internal box-like structure beyond the simple plate)? What sort of flex are you getting in your Targas? You are well on your way to becoming THE authority on Baur Targas. Appreciated.
Mike Pugh is the Baur Authority and fountain knowledge that I drank from at least three or four times already on this Baur refresh…
the Baur seem plenty stiff just trying to over do it…
1) middle 14 gauge steel stiffener that I cut off to repair remove rust.
2) stiffer, dry fit, bolted in place before painting and installing.

Rainy Saturday here, worked all day on the Baur.
1) Marked and cut side panel, to slide repair panel under with out removing the rusty area on wheel arch…repair panel is clamped in place to mark and put layout marks.
2) removed repair panel, and replaced the interior wheel trim. Using the repair panel for placement on the interior wheel repair panel.
3) repair panel dry fit and set with screws.
4) welded in place not beautiful, ran out of gas…- 3

Thanks Hal, I should have called you after Terry!

Small problem in my refresh of my Baur…I’m still in Australia, but my friend breaking down my front struts, just contacted me and let me know that one of them is bent… so I am in need of one Tii front strut, if anyone has one that I can purchase, please let me know.

Not enough pictures to really tell what the deal is, it’s not the repair panel it’s flat… My only suggestion would be to check it against the other side and see if the frame rail seems bent up. We used to have a saying at work… Even on Sesame Street they can tell which one of these is not like the other.

I have not wanted to start on the rust repairs as I like to do that continuous days of work and i’m gonna wait till we return from holiday so I don’t hurt myself before we leave…so I’ve been keeping myself busy with small jobs, cleaning parts/painting
the block/painted the oil pan, and started cleaning the aluminum bits…- 6

Looks strong and sealed up, being a welding helper and grinding the work prepares you to be a welder and not lay down any unnecessary bead… I haven’t stick welded in 20 years. Once you go wire fed and gas you never go back.

Granada red is a deep, dark red very nice one of favorite.
Verona red is a beautiful color, much brighter more orange in the red…
I’m refreshing my Verona red Baur I have no pictures that reflect fresh Verona red…
but attached is a picture of my son’s Granada Red 2002 my original car purchased in 76

No repair panel I know of for that area, cut out that area from another car or just fill it in with a flat piece of 16 gauge or 14 gauge metal. That’s not a normal place that the cars rust. Somethings sat there wet… I would make a quarter inch plywood panel and cover it with the gray elephant skin vinyl to cover that area after the repair.

I had that same pin fail on my Baur, you need to remove the complete mechanism from the top and replace that pin with a small bolt…
