Mind sharing the measurements you’ve taken, I also need one. Haven’t had time to get it done.
- ReyesSure man. I actually made a graphic with the measurements I got.

IE has 240g conversion driveshafts?!
- ReyesNo, I had to give them the measurements so they could cut a driveshaft to the correct length. They do however sell a 2002 driveshaft ready to go for a getrag 245 but I'm guessing you already knew that.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is the e30 driveshaft diameter the same as a 2002s so that the end can be removed and easily re-welded?
Yes. I measured it. It is 50mm. Same as a 2002 driveshaft.

Price: $200Location: Phoenix. AZ
Description:I'm selling 2 4-speed transmissions. $200 for both. One is from a 1976 2002 and the other is from a 1979 320i. The one from my 2002 shifts nicely with no grinding and I just pulled it out of the car 3 weeks ago. The transmission from the 320i is a bit of an unknown but i am pretty confident after speaking to a family friend that sold me the car that it came out of that there were no issues with the transmission. I also have a clutch and pressure plate to go with it. Local pick up only at this time. Sorry for how dirty the transmissions are in the pics. All I've done is pull them out from the cars. I also have the 4 bolt flange and nut that is missing on one of the transmissions in the pictures.
Thanks,
Roberto

I actually need the version that you have the front half for. Thanks anyway.
Sorry, left that in the salvage yard.

Do you also have the rear half?
I do not because I sent in my full 2002 driveshaft as a core for the new one I'm ordering. I do however have a full driveshaft from a 1979 bmw 320i. Not sure if that's of interest to you.

Price: $60Location: Phoenix, AZ
Description:This front half of a driveshaft came from a 86 3 series. I was planning on cutting the side with the 3 bolt flange and having it welded to my 2002 driveshaft in order to mate to the 5 speed transmission but my 2002 driveshaft needed new joints so I decided to buy a full driveshaft from IE. I found this 3 bolt front half driveshaft at a salvage yard. I got taken for $100 but will let it go for $60 plus shipping.
Thanks,
Roberto

See your other post.
The fat part of an early 80's 320i driveshaft is 60mm and the skinny part is 50mm, same as a 2002. You will need to cut off 3"-4" of 50mm tubing with the 320i flange, as the flange is really hard to get out by itself. You might want to find/make a short piece of tubing that fits inside both the flange tube and the driveshaft to center everything before welding. Good luck.
Thanks for the measurements. I've been looking for a 320 driveshaft but haven't been able to find one yet. I have found a few e30 driveshafts. wondering if they have the same 50mm ends.

You need the nose/front flange from any BMW driveshaft that uses the "624" guibo, so that it can be welded to the front of your 2002 driveshaft when it gets shortened/balanced/rebuilt for your 240 5-speed conversion. I used to cut the flange part from used driveshaft that the transmission would've come from.
Sorry that you have an '84 318i trans as it doesn't have a speedometer drive and that building a trans crossmember for the two diagonal mounts is harder than if it were a 240 trans from an '83 4cyl E21.
Hi, I'm finding a few driveshafts that use the 624 guibo but they are not skinny driveshafts like on my 2002. I have a lead on a e30 3-bolt driveshaft but it looks like its skinny on the ends of the driveshaft but fatter in the middle. Will these still work? Do you think the skinny ends are the same diameter as my 2002 and will a driveshaft shop be able to use just the end to weld to my 2002 driveshaft?

I'm in the process of doing a 5 speed swap. I need to get the front end of a 3 bolt driveshaft and cut the end off of it and have it welded to my 2002 driveshaft. My question is. I'm finding a few 3 bolt driveshafts from e30's and e36's that use the same 3 bolt guibo but the driveshaft isn't the same diameter from end to end. They are fatter diameter in the middle. These e30 driveshafts are still skinny at the ends though. I wondering if I can use these driveshafts and just cut the end where it it skinny and have it welded to my skinny 2002 driveshaft?
If anyone has any experience with this, I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks

I'm in the middle of installing a 240 from an 84 318i. Let me know if you have any questions. There's a lot less info and parts for doing the swap than a 245 but I've pretty much figured it all out. You've got to collect a mix match of parts and I installed a gps speedo. More people should do this swap though so there is more info and maybe someone will make a kit.

Thanks Mark. I'll reach out to him. Looks like that could work!

Yes. Doing a 5speed conversion. I tried to swap the 3 bolt output flange for a 4 and they had different spline diameters so now I am looking for a 3 bolt front driveshaft or just the flange part to cut and have welded to my 2002 driveshaft.

Thanks! Looks like there are quite a few cars that use that guibo so hopefully I can find a driveshaft locally at a salvage yard. I got a good deal on the transmission but unfortunately it didn't come with a driveshaft. I ended up installing a gps speedo a while back cause my speedo never worked so that issue is solved. I do however need to figure out the rear crossmember mount but I should be able to make that myself.

I'm looking for the front half of a 3-bolt driveshaft. I believe they are typically found in a 320i or 318i.
Thanks,

I think he means the driveshaft flange. You’ll need to cut/adapt/balance the driveshaft after you get the 3 bolt flange on driveshaft. Most ppl prefer the 3 bolt flanges as the guibos are stronger
Thanks. I'll have to find a 3-bolt driveshaft to make that work.

Most have used the front flange from an E21 3er.
Hi John, Can you elaborate on this? The e21 came with a 4 speed and 5 speed. Does the e21 5speed flange fit on a getrag 240? If you mean to tell me to use a 3-bolt flange from a e21, I already have a 3-bolt flange (the one in the picture).
Thanks.

Hi Roberto,
I'm looking for a 3 flange output shaft. If you would like to sell it, I'll buy it. Let me know.

Hi Roman, If I can find a 4-bolt flange that will work, I would consider selling it.

I'm currently installing a getrag 240 5 speed transmission from a 1984 318i in my 2002. Ran into an issue today when i tried to change the 3-bolt flange to a 4-bolt so I could use my 2002 driveshaft. The two flanges have different center diameters. I'm now looking for a 4-bolt flange that will match to a getrag 240 from a 84 318i. Does anyone know if this exists and if so, on what cars or transmissions? If I can't find a 4-bolt flange that will work, I'll need to find the front half of a 3-bolt driveshaft. The picture shows the 3-Bolt (getrag 240) output flange with a small diameter. The 4-Bolt output flange is from a 4 speed out of my 1976 2002.
Thanks,
Roberto

Hi TVeye,
Was wondering if you found anything out about the 4 speed trans parts working on the 240 trans? I am currently working on installing a 240 in my 2002. I don't have the shift plate for the 240 but I have 2 shift plates from 4 speed transmissions. If you already did the swap, did you run into any 240 clearance issues and how did you solve the 2 rear trans mounts issue?

Getrag 240 driveshaft length
in BMW 2002 and other '02

I thought I would share this simple diagram I made as a reference for people doing a 5 speed swap with a getrag 240. These are the measurements I got. I do not recommend relying solely on these numbers when doing your own getrag 240 swap. Please do your own measurements and use this diagram as a reference. I installed a getrag 240 from a 1984 318i and have a LSD diff.
