  1. Damn, but that is a sweet car though..... Comparing that to the Tii for sale for $39 on 2002ad website, the Inka is light years ahead of it
  2. http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/5663148932.html Thoughts anyone? I just missed the 72 for sale last week for $5k an dam super bummed about it. I might be therapy shopping and over paying, but if I could talk him down, it might not be a bad buy. He states the rust is all surface. (which they all state) And this is what I got from vin finder: Thank you for your email. The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2762688 was manufactured on October 11th, 1972 and delivered on October 13th, 1972 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Chamonix, paint code 085. We hope this information is helpful for you
  3. Sweet deal till you notice the time stamp is from 9 years ago
  4. For all the expertise on here, I must say there is a fair amount of lack of knowledge when it comes to the tti. Let me just re-educate everyone on what a special car it is. Much like the famed and elusive car Johnny Cash sang about in his famous song, the tti was in production from 1968-1974; that is to say it took that many years for them to produce a total of five. Remarkably, all five are currently for sale on the internet. Lucky for us! And, the reality is they are of course nothing like the porsche 911 or 356. Indeed they are much rarer and hard to come by. Anyone can find an ordinary, original 1972 2002tii, but to find one in molested, mashed together one off of six production years combined is a true feat. Again, lucky for all of us they are all for sale on the internet at the same time! Take advantage people! exciting times! http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-2002-BLUE-/152003340761?forcerrptr=true&hash=item23641ae9d9:g:wZwAAOSwDuJWuWjn&item=152003340761 http://roanoke.craigslist.org/cto/5459323098.html http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_145712870610414&key=e8bf1b856b17d86c8fa6b0749e6d2f85&libId=ile8f3fn01000cp7000DAdfd1zf5t&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bmw2002faq.com%2Ftopic%2F177980-1972-bmw-2002-tti-8200-henderson%2F&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Flasvegas.craigslist.org%2Fcto%2F5475141394.html&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bmw2002faq.com%2Fforum%2F10-cars-for-sale%2F&title=1972%20BMW%202002%20TTI%20-%20%248200%20(henderson)%20-%20Cars%20for%20Sale%20-%20BMW%202002%20FAQ&txt=http%3A%2F%2Flasvegas.crai...5475141394.html
  5. This is the email response I got to my request for more info: "Unfortunately I have no paper trail back to the late 1980's when this 2002 was restored. This is only anecdotal but it is my understanding that the car (vin# 2579254) was a base 2002. At the time of the restoration, a newly rebuilt tii engine was installed- the engine number, which I don't have handy, does not match the Vin#. The only real difference between the base cars and the tii were the engine. As the ad said, the rust areas, both about the size of a half dollar were patched and aren't really visible from 15 feet. Attached are two photo's of those areas"
  6. Thanks for the heads up - I would've missed that. As nice as it is, and hopefully someone ends up with a great deal and car, there are too many shady things for me to take a stab at this one.
  7. On the contrary, this is exactly the place to lay your opinion. It is clearly "buyer beware" across the board, no matter who is buying and from where/whom. It is ultimately the buyer's responsibility to do their due diligence; it is just much easier to do that with the thoughts and opinions of others who have gone through similar situations.
  8. Thanks for the thoughtful advice everyone. I emailed him the other day and he gave me a detailed response with a bunch more photos. He said the car had an offer in on it for 14 and that if I wanted the car I should counter that by 9am the next morning. I'm not interested in speculating whether that was gamesmanship or the truth, and so I thanked him for the info. I let him know that 12 hrs was too short of notice for me on that car, but I would keep an eye out on his site for others that might interest me. (I love this forum and think it's awesome how enthused and helpful everyone is. It's nice to have people looking out for best interests.)
  9. I'm thinking of biting on the Sahara/tan '72 tii from 2002AD. (it's on their website.) This would be my first 2002, and...I'm in Maine! I've read the previous threads about their shop and dealing with Ben, so I know their might be some hiccups, but... Any suggestions? Recommendations? Thanks for your help
  10. Year:: 1972 Make:: BMW Model:: 2002 Anyone have any thoughts on this? I've been looking for a roundie in this price range for a while. I don't have any experience with 2002's, just love the look of them. I want a roundie, and this seems to have potential. What are some things to look for? I understand matching numbers increases value, but is there anything more specific I should be looking for? There is also the same year parts car for $200 in the area that I thought I could pick up also. Thanks for the help http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/5155682329.html
