Looks like a 60's Porsche knob. Most of the ones I've seen also have the shift pattern on them:

Whoa man! No disrespect. Of course I wouldn’t personally go down there and buy a car out from underneath someone, but I’m not everybody. All I was trying to say is if a car was really a good deal, you are not going to be the only one who thinks so.
Also, I don’t think asking for advice on a potential purchase is a bad idea. I just wouldn’t post a link to the actual ad where any other individual on the hunt for an ‘02 browsing the forums could easily contact that person and buy it from underneath you. Typically I just copy the pictures from the ad and give some detail and that’s it!
I wouldn’t be scared off from an automatic either. The 4 speed has many reasons to be swapped out too.
As I said, for the money I think it’s a good candidate from what I can tell in these pics. I would also offer less because the ad has been up for so long. Most good deals are gone in hours.

Maybe I've just missed out on too many good CL deals, but I would NEVER post an ad to a vehicle that I'm interested in on a forum of said vehicle asking if it's a good deal. Especially in the cheap sub $5K club. Shoot... if I was local, I'd go look at it.
I'm not local so I'd say go for it! You really aren't taking a risk paying $5k for one of these. It presents well in photos and if you pick it up and really regret you could probably get what you paid for it without much hassle.

Are you in the mood to cut the spare wheel well out and ship it down the coast???
I'm also interested in the lower rocker trim on both sides

I just finished my P912 and wanted the e10 to replace the tinkering need that my 912 once filled. I hope the prices don't go too crazy on 02's. If it's anything like Porsches, the price of parts, worries, and fun go with it. Some things are just better left as a hobby with no $$$ attached.

Thank you for the kind words. I'll be taking the grills off again soon to continue removing the black paint. So far it has taken me two few hours sessions to get them here, but there's still more. If I remember correctly, they were both dimensionally the same though I'll admit I didn't know there were two kinds. I'll measure them soon. The fitment needs a little love, which is why it protrudes. For now, here's the best pic of the passenger side I have without getting up.
