i am ready to remove the smog wire harness- (1974 2002 carb )
i understand that there is a wire that goes to the pos. terminal of the coil involved, that has to stay.
can any one fill in some details ?

i just opened the air cleaner after two days, and i have to agree; it's quite filthy
so I will take it off.
I have seen somewhere a can to collect this oil-I am not too keen on blowing it into the street, and ultimately san francisco bay.
any one know who offer these "oil drip cans" ?
and thanks, I will remove the canister; I don't think it does much at this point.

re the valve cover to air cleaner hose: I have thought about that.
engine is pretty fresh- not much comes out.
but
the charcoal canister has one hose from the tank, and the other went to the air cleaner
maybe that idea was that you burn the gas fumes?
what do most people do?
anyone eliminate this canister?

I mounted the weber carb w. the aftermarket air cleaner ( for now)
i hooked up the hose from the valve cover to the air cleaner.
but what about the small hose from the charcoal canister on the right front fender wall?
can i leave this off?
what does this canister even do?
an I just get rid of it?
this is 1974 2002 smog exempt

looking for suggestions for new tires.
I want to keep my 13" steel wheels ( for now)
does conti or pirelli make appropriate size?

I was at local pick'n'pull
there are quite a few 14" alloy wheels i could get of of 3 series
BMW etc.
most look straight, but are ugly, stained etc.
is there some where to send them to have them spruced up?
is this a common remedy?
welcome any ideas

related issue:
my 1974 2002 is mostly desmogged
I want to remove the wiring harness for the smog stuff, the rpm switch etc.
is this a totally separate harness?
to remove it is seems I have to untape some sections?
any one know how involved this is?

i have ordered the spacer, but i am not sure what it's for.
i thought also, insulte the carb and keep the fuel cool.
related question: does the water jacket under the intake manifold
serve to keep it cool, or keep it warm?
-
thanks
carbs unlimited has a 7 mm thick spacer

wanted to finish this weekend- manifold installed etc.
should the new weber bolt right onto the manifold?
or am I missing some kind of plastic spacer/heat shield?

about to replace my original solex with weber 32/36 DGV
I notice the previous owner has blocked off the fuel return line.
does the new weber need a fuel return?
I am using the stock mechanical pump
thanks

thanks to all, and quick install question
it seems my old solex had the fuel return line blocked off.
it runs fine; do I need this liner operable with the weber?
I am using the stock mechanical pump.

will do,
thanks all

OK thanks all
but is there anywhere a definitive list
of what all the jet sizes etc for weber 32/36
combined with a BMW 2002 engine should be?
by the way, thanks for the tips about using the OE air cleaner

hello. new 2002 owner 1974
I bought a new 32/36 from weber direct
it was not part of a conversion kit, because i wanted one with a manual choke.
(my old solex has a choke cable in the dash)
now I am thinking, maybe it is not jetted for my engine.
i don't mind rejetting it if it's not correct
1 what are the chances it will just work out of the box?
2. how do I find out what all the jet/ tube sizes should be ?

OK Thanks
but if i run a wire from # 12 fuse to the + coil, won't the coil be always on?
shouldn't it come from the key switch?
