Paul,
Thanks for the note re: your, er..., rather your car's, underside. Nicely done and looks nice. My '74 tii needs a good belly cleaning, degreasing, and general tidying-up. Will you be so kind as to provided a little of your experience?
You stated, "...I cleaned the trunk and underside down to metal and completed a POR15 process."
1. How did you go about cleaning your belly and POR15'ing? Take it to the pressure car wash? Up on stands and crawling under? Hand washing? etc.?
2. How did you manually clean the belly? Chems? Soap? Pressure? Scraping?
3. How did you go about applying anti-rust? Applied over all components, including frame, etc.?
Photos of my car and a few representations of its underside are attached.
Thanks for any help, wise counsel, and sage advice.

Just to clarify: I've only done the area directly under the trunk. I, too, am daunted by the task of cleaning and preserving above the rear subframe and under the passenger compartment.
I started with a wire wheel on a drill and ground down the various coatings until I reached metal. If there was some surface rust I didn't worry about eliminating it completely, just the scaly excess. Luckily there wasn't too much.
The Por-15 process has a few steps. Cleaning, degreasing, metal prep and coating. They sell all the products to achieve a good result. The metal prep stage converts any existing rust into a bondable surface to apply the final coating. I used the Por-15 grey coating and added my own Inka oil-based paint over top for a final stage. Because it's the underside of the car, I brush-painted everything. No need for fancy spray application.
During the cleaning process I wore paper coveralls, rubber gloves, a respirator, and a face shield. Especially when using the metal prep and coating YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY USE ALL PROTECTION AVAILABLE.
My plan is to drop the rear subframe and all components up to the engine including the driveshaft, exhaust, transmission, etc. All the components can then be cleaned and coated off the car. It will make cleaning the underside of the car that much easier. Huge job, but it will be beautiful when done.
Of course, it would be nice to pressure wash the underside while the car is on a hoist with hot soapy water or professional degreaser. If you can do that it will make things easier. As for coating the underside with all components in place...I wouldn't. It would not allow you to get into all the nooks and crannies.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Paul

Hey Paul,
Your own blaster or did you use a local shop. I ask because the guy I have used in the past has a deadbeat working in there now, and is not very good.

Maybe next year. I've been watching your build posts. Look forward to seeing your completed car. I love Colorado. I had Patrick at Midnight do some work for me a few years ago. I completely trust him. Normally, I don't trust mechanics with my car.
I think you'll like Langley Ublast.
