what steering wheel is this out of?
all leather covered 3 piece dash in our 71 -
I know this question has been asked a 1,000 times on here but everybody's set up is different. I have a 74 automatic with a crate motor that was ordered from vasek polak dealership in 1991, and installed about 100k miles ago. any suggestions on what to put in it? what is the preferred brand of filter for these engines?
-
yes, i definitely don't want to drill in the dash, luckily mine has no cracks.
-
thanks for the friendly advice, i have oodles of vdo gauges from previous cars and almost every one you mentioned will be mounted in my cockpit sometime in the future.
My post was to see if and how people had cleanly mounted a gauge between the steering wheel and the instrument cluster in their 2002.
-
Has anyone done this? i have a tach to install in place of the clock, and i have some unsightly holes to cover on the top pad of the steering column, so thought i would install an old smaller vdo clock there between the steering wheel and the cluster since i still like to know what time it is!
I'm curious what people have used to mount a gauge there, i've seen what's on egauges and ebay, but want to know what works in this specific placement. Thanks

and his asking price of $200 is a good deal unless the fabric and foam is super destroyed, they usually sell for $300 or $400 a set on vwvortex.com and the lower outside driver's bolster foam is usually messed up.
if it's just stained, you can remove the fabric and toss them in the wash and it should look pretty good (but time consuming to take apart). i'm soon going to be recovering a set and will have spare fabric and can answer questions for you as i've disassembled a previous set before.
you can also probably make a little of your money back if you list the vw seat bases for sale. There are just 6 allen head bolts that hold them on.

nice! glad it worked out for you and that the paint was a good match. i got the pop out windows from it, and grabbed an oem foglight switch from one of the e21's for when the time comes to mount those up.
should i have probably grabbed more parts from it? i thought a lot of the seals were available new now. let me know for next time so i can at least get them for other folks or start building a stockpile. i wished it had driver's door as well, because my driver window has a scratch in it.
i'm curious, how did you get the trunk open?!?! i'm sure i could have eventually opened it but just wasn't that motivated to do so.
Did you see that old 1968 saab in the back?
-
I believe the hood was gone, if I remember, the trunk lid itself was in decent shape but the paint was faded and the chrome trim was missing. Maybe the paint would shine up if polished? I tried to open the hood through the gas tank hole with a long rod that i found laying around, but couldn't get it to pop so you might have a hell of a time getting it open.

The Bavaria still has a lot of parts but body panels were a little rusty.
The 2002 is pretty stripped. It is the mint "Kermit" green. The body panels seemed to be in pretty good shape. It still had the parkbench bumpers and the chrome was actually in good shape. I couldn't open the trunk.
There were also 2 e21's, both had the radiators.

glad to see you're back on the road. i read your unfortunate story a few months ago. I'm also loving that 73 motorcycle linked in your signature, that could be the coolest looking bike I've ever seen.
-
nice! are you going to bring it to the socal vintage meet up on 10/29?
-
I love that 3rd pic. where did you go? SB? SLO?
-
I think you got forgot to post the pics, but they sound great

I completely understand, we haven't even discussed price, so I was just "throwing it out there" to you

Beard, if you do end up getting this, I'd like to grab few parts from it, i have an Automatic and a Frigiking AC in my daily driver, so if you planning on ditching that stuff anyways, count me in for a few $.

Looking good Ray
-
how easy are those 6 series seats to get secured in there?
-
-
I was personally looking for an automatic to drive daily, but it's just personal taste. Most people prefer manuals and/or buy automatics to swap in a 5 speed. Mine also has 99.9% no rust, almost perfect interior, all original and I gladly paid more than your potential car is selling for and don't regret it for a minute. How is the paint? How does it run? Good luck!

I have this one but it's not for sale. Ruehman broke ground in 1973, they aren't around anymore, or at least they changed their name. I'd love to find a Zipper BMW.

they'll work, but you'll need different lug nuts
