I went to the Home Depot Center and watched the Rally racing there. I've been a rally motorsport enthusiast since the early 90's and although this is not "real" rally racing, it will bring more interest to the sport. More interest means more manufacturer and sponsor $ and support and this will definitely help rally grow to the potential I see it having in the US. That ultimately means more fun cars and parts for us.
Those "tattooed punks" typically drive around in overly lifted 4x4 trucks that are becoming overly expensive to own with our weakening dollar and cost of gas. There will be a shift to subarus and the like if they can still take 'em off-road, jump them, get 20mpg, and be considered "cool".
Subaru invested a lot of money in sponsoring the X-games and marketing toward this crowd. All of the contestants in the rally were driving subarus except the one Mitsu Evo that flipped.
Even though some of these kids don't have the outward appearance of Colin McRae or Carlos Sainz that you may associate with "Rally Racer", most of them hold the top spots in Rally America point standings.
