  1. For collector purposes there is nothing illegal about this. Because of your anal reply I am withdrawing from BMW2002FAQ and taking all my truckloads of 2002 stuff to the scrap yard. Opportunity lost for those that may need.
  2. Just throwing it out there. Totalled my legal 73 and no need to send the title to the scrap yard. $300. Tons of parts from 4 total 2002's available. Thanks lighthousemaui@hotmail.com
  3. Here I am building another 2002 engine. The first one I built is still running very strong but just does not have the umph that I want. Just like the first I am running 9.5 to 1 pistons a shrick cam degree escapes me at the moment, a lighthened flywheel and thats about it. There does not seem to be anyone on Maui that gives a crap about 02's. I know because I have pretty much tried to give mine away and had no luck. Any tips on engine build? Would balancing the crank help? If so any suggestions? I am a novice builder and although I can build and repair just about anything, I can't seem to make anything go faster unless it is bolt on or in stuff. Please help or guide me to some place that can outline it for me. 2002 power for dummies would help. Thank you in advance. P.S. Have a million 02 parts on Maui if anyone is here with me. Aloha, Gary

  5. I have been anonymously driving my beat up 75 2002 for the last 3 months while I installed my new motor, paint etc on my 73. Been driving the 73 now for 3 days and people are gawking and gathering around it everywhere I go. Most have a story of high school or college with a friend that drove a 2002. I can't believe the difference in driving and reaction between a beater and one that looks clean. I am itching to break it in so that I can test out its abilities. As it stands now It is almost impossible to keep it under 60. Even on the narrow winding road that I drive to and from work. I want to say thanks for all the replys to my questions that I have posted. This forum has been invaluable for info and an excellent resource to buy and sell parts. Mahalo, Gary
  6. Tried the grounding method and it shot the guage right up. Replaced with a spare sensor and works perfect. Thanks much for the tips. Nice to have tons of spare parts when you live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
  7. Appreciate the tip. Probably did use teflon. Can't wait to check. There is a sensor at the distributor and then one at the water jacket in front. Which feeds my temp guage?
  8. So i'm driving with my new engine and the temp guage is barely leaving the blue (cold) area. It is the same guage and sensor that was hooked up to my old motor and definetely worked before. The guage does move some. After a five mile drive I opened the radiator and it was hot but not overheating at all. I did not have any way to check the actual temp. Any ideas on how I can check my guage. I am pretty happy with my engine build but I am sure that I could not build a motor that runs cooler than BMW could. Appreciate any tips. Gary
  9. Finished painting my 73 this weekend and played hookie from work to re assemble yesterday. When I went to clean my interior and re install my door panels I realized that with no interior panels installed and plastic vapor barrier removed and exterior trim off of the car I sprayed right through the trim holes and laid some paint down on my beautiful front seats. It makes me ill when I think about it. I will be able to remove the paint from the seats but it was a stupid mistake, I can't believe that I did not realize that this was going to happen. Just posting so that maybe someone will not make the same mistake. Drove the car to work. With a new motor, tranny, steering wheel, and paint job it sure was a fun drive.
  10. The wheels are Drag dr 31's with a universal bolt pattern that came off of a 325. Such a deal I could not pass. I hate to cut and install flares on a nice stock 73. Maybe I will have to forward them to some Honda guy.
  11. checked out the site and compared to the 185/70-14's that are on the car it shows only a difference of 24.2" for the 14's to 24.4" on the 17's. It shows a .8% difference overall. Am I reading this wrong?
  12. I have picked up a set of alloys with 235/40 17's. My question is will they fit on my sons 73 non lowered 2002? Any input? Thanks, Gary
  13. any pics possible? My email is lighthousemaui@hotmail.com Thanks, Gary
  14. My email address is lighthousemaui@hotmail.com and I would very much appreciate a picture. Thanks, Gary

  17. I believe that I have all the parts you need. Give me an email to lighthousemaui@hotmail.com. Trade?
  18. Going to Hana next weekend. The drive is a blast. Always head there at night when there is no traffic so it is a very white knuckled ride. I wouldnt ride with me. I live on the complete opposite end of the island and the roads are similar so I know my car very well. My tires that I am currently running are wearing very evenly. Do you think the 205s will wear differently?
  19. I guess I will not know until they are mounted how they will look, fit, and handle. Hopefully I am not wasting my time picking these up. Maybe the lower profile tire will allow me to lower my 73 car even further. Ninety percent of my driving is on tight twisting roads so the lower and smaller the tire I would assume would translate into tighter quicker response.
  20. Thanks for the reply David At the moment the car is sitting 2 inches lower than stock. Running the common stock type aluminum wheels (name and width unknown). Camber is at what it turned out to be after dropping it without camber adjustment and it handles like a dream. Fenders are not rolled but well within my ability to do so if need be. Being out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and owning 3 2002's I have to keep my eyes open and take whatever comes my way whenever it does. I don't need these at the moment but, am not about to pass up a deal when it is presented. (If they will fit with or without some adjustments) Aloha, Gary
  21. I found a super deal locally on a new full set of 205 50 13 tires. Anyone run this size any comments or thoughts any pics of this size on 2002 Thanks, Gary
  22. Ready for color coat and looking for Martin Senour code for Chamoix on my 73. I can't seem to find it on the internet and want to call it in to Napa for pick up. Anyone know where to look? Thanks, Gary
  23. Aloha, Not many waves lately so you may have to rent a real real long board. As far as refresher surfing classes there are many to choose from in Lahaina and Kaanapali. I have 3 02's but one is in paint booth, one is in parts, and the other is my daily so I am afraid I can't spare one for a joy ride. Hope you enjoy yourself here and don't forget to wear sunscreen! Gary
