Yes Toby...its got an external relay...lol..
To be fair...I should have spelled it out a little more clearly. This is just the control unit that mounts in the car, and runs to a 30 amp relay in the engine bay to power the fan.
-
Will check the heat as thats in the cabin...but it uses the relay for all the heavy lifting. Also Dakota Digital has been using this form factor for years and I havent seen this issue. Its not like Dakota Digital just started making fan controllers...they just added bluetooth to their controller.

About 10 years ago, I installed a SPAL 12" high performance electric fan and used the e21 fans switch to control it. It worked. I was never completely happy about the turn on and off points. I used a cooler fan switch and that one just kept the fan on pretty much all the time. So I lived with it. Because I am a nerd at heart, I love the idea of being able to tweak and customize things, like the 123 Bluetooth Dizzy. I even posted the desire to have a fan controller with that type of app controllability a few years back. Well my tech loving prayers have been answered and Dakota Digital now makes a programmable electric fan controller with an iOS app to control it via bluetooth. It allows you to set the fan on and off temp, use various temp switches or stock temp sender as an input, control multiple fans, turn on with AC, supports 2 speed fan operation, and has customizable timer for fan to run after engine shutoff. Install was a snap, instructions were thorough and easy to follow. It comes with a relay so nothing else was needed other than some wire. I have a VDO temp gauge in addition to the stock gauge in the cluster so I used the VDO sender as the temp input. Opened the app, connected the bluetooth on my phone and I set the sender type as VDO, and then set the on and off temp. The diagnostics page shows the temp reading and allows you too calibrate the sender. Once you get the fan on and fan off temps the operation is rock solid. What was not exact before with the e21 switch is perfect every time. So all in all you get a very reliable fan controller and you have the ability to use the stock temp gauge sender or various aftermarket temp senders making wiring easier and cleaner. A nice option for anyone wanting more frills than just the fan switch.

The vendor has been cool about it and will make it right. I was just asking and seeing if there was an easy option for all involved.

I agree. The only reason I am thinking about it is the time factor. I waited 6 weeks for this one. Wait another 6 for the correct one? I also would move the lights slightly closer to center since it was designed for a wider euro plate.
-
Long story short....got a new bumper coming to replace mine. It should have had the light cutouts for the euro license plate lights like I ordered, but it doesn’t. Should I cut the lights out myself and if so how? Or should I wait for them to send me another one with the light cutouts. I don’t have tons of tools...so can it be done with a Dremel? And when I say can it be done....I mean can it be done so the end result looks factory. I would rather not screw up a brand new bumper.

I was like 20k for a nice Tii. Not too bad. Then I saw the ad. LOL. Yeah right. What je is saying is there is 20k in parts. If you wanna make a car you can lol. He is t wrong about the parts being worth maybe 20k but RUNNING Tii’s can be had for not much more.

Do you mean 2021? Or is this tongue in cheek ?
Good list regardless!
Haha...nice catch. Maybe that was subliminal....alot of that was on the list in 2020 as well.

Mike,
this is a link for the parts from the Dealer...BMW of South Atlanta.
https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/oem-parts/bmw-registration-plate-light-h63210-63261353470
$57.69 each.
My local dealer matches those prices...and I save shipping.

Im interested. W&N in Germany sells them for $45 each plush shipping. Blunt and various BMW dealers are $55-65 each. What are you looking to get?

Thanks for the info. Just want something more elegant than on or off. This looks like what I’m looking for. I have been wanting this for at least 4 years now. LOL

I am looking at the PAC-2800BT electric fan controller. It’s programmable so I can set the on and off temps. It’ll work with a stock temp sensor or the VDO . I have both as I am using a VDO temp gauge in addition to the stock one. It has some great features. 2 speed operation with compatible fans (I think my SPAL fan is 2 speed compatible). 0-5 min after shutoff fan timer. Cool feature. Will work with AC if the car has is. Is Bluetooth so once wired all programming and adjustments can be made from my phone or iPad. I have not used any Dakota Digital products before but the reviews are very positive. Just wanna see if there are people with any personal experience with that company before I take the plunge.

I love the patina! I’d keep it...get it running,,,do interior...suspension. Leave the bodywork for last. You may realize that it’s a lot of fun the way it is. Enjoy the ride. Document it

Lightened flywheels are for racing, where idle doesn't matter and you stay in the high rpm range where it makes a difference.
On a street driven car your better off sticking with the stock flywheel, so your engine idles properly. Spend your money on a nice 3.91 lsd to go with that getrag 245.
have you driven a 02 with a l/w flywheel? If so which one and how much lighter than stock? Aluminum or steel lightened?
I have a stock flywheel that was lightened. I did it when I went with a 245. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Revs faster, idles great and no chatter or drivability issues.
Also for my driving...and ALOT of 02 gurus...a 3.91 is not an upgrade...I stuck with the 3.64 and love it. I also have a modded m10 motor so it has some balls. Just did a 900 mile road trip...cruising comfortably at 80-85. Try that with a 3.91...

Heater woes...again

OK...so maybe 10 years ago I rebuilt my heater box. Got a used heater core, and replaced all the seals. Heat was working great. Over the years it has slowly lost temp and now only gives heat when idling for a while, other than that its cool air coming out of the heater. So it looks like time to rebuild it again. Should I just get a new heater core, or is there a way to rebuild the heater core? The last one I took to a radiator shop and they tested it and said it was good. Is it just a small radiator that the shop can take the tank off and rod out the core? New radiator cores are about $500. Used ones are much cheaper, but will I be in the same situation in 10 years?
