I posted some initial exterior pics of the 76 2002 I picked up last week....Some asked for interior and engine compartment pics....so here goes!
-
Anyone have any personal experiences?
-
very nice. any pictures under the hood, or of the interior?
congrats.

i will take some this week....I dont have any as of yet...These were taken on Friday before I bought it...I have not had a chance to do anything but drive it home (500 miles) and park it!

I think you're going to run into trouble smogging it with all those mods if you have it registered in CA. You need a 75 or down to dodge the smog checks.
Thanks for the heads up, but I wont have any of those issues....wont get into it on the internet....
-
Sweet...thanks for the tips...will look into all that.

I'll be a bit more specific. Suspension is tight. No loose or worn components. Steering becomes more "normal" as you turn the wheel, but when the wheel is in the center it is very light and has play...like a dead section...you know how no older cars you get that dead spot in the center...car drivers fine, doesnt pull either way nor does it do anything odd while cornering which leads me to believe its not tie rods, bushings, bearings, etc, and its strictly related to the steering box....

Ok...I will look....I THINK its a weber...it got a square air cleaner on it. I will look exactly though.
-
So my steering is very light (loose?) in the center and has alot of play....is there any adjustments for this or do I need to get a new or rebuild the steering box?

OK..so I drove it from The bay area to Orange County...about 400+ miles. It ran smoothly, but a few things jumped out at me. One, its not a very free revving engine. I remember my previous 2002 revving harder/faster and higher..this one seemed to shut down about 4000 rpm....in all gears...Fuel delivery maybe? It has has a good amount of valve noise....didnt remembar that either from the previous 02....then it slipped when running quickly through the gear, never slipped on downshift or when shifting slowly....clutch or throw out bearing? I plan a 5spd conversion soon anyway so I will do a clutch job when that happens as well.....just wanted to ask about those 2 things. It has a Weber carb on it, have not looked at it closely, stock exhaust manifold.....Oh the car smokes a bit under HEAVY decelaration, but never any other time....maybe valves? Its day 2 of the ownership of this car and I cant keep a smile off my face!!!!!!

Just got a 76 2002, blue, sunroof. Almost NO rust!!!!! I found one TINY bubble, but other than that its CLEAN....Here are a few pics.....I paln on doing the engine, dual 40mm carbs, headers, mild cam, and bore. 5 spd conversion, rims and suspension...Then just DRIVE it!!! Interior is mint, not a crack on the dash! I will probably do recaro seats and update the steerimg wheel as well.....

I am looking to buy an 02 and would like AC....can it be added to a car without it easily?
-
Found a 2002 that I like....motor is not put together...thats ok....I plan on engine mods..it doesnt require smog, so I wanna go with dual webers, headers, maybe a cam....I want reliability and driveability but a nice little power punch too....Should I go 40 or 45 DCOE's? Should I do a complete engine rebuild? What have others done? I know I want the 5 speed conversion as well since I wanna commute in it and I have a 50 mile commute on the freeway. Also I am in Newport Beach, any place close to get the car worked on?

Hello all, well my first post here...I am looking for a 2002 for fun and a performance restoration...I found a 76 (not my ideal year) thats in pretty good shape for about $1500...the downside is it has an aftermarket "ragtop" like on the old VW bugs....I want a factory sunroof...how easy, or difficult would it be to find a wrecked sunroof car and recplace the roof at a good body shop? Now that I am actually writing this it sounds like a bad idea, but maybe others can chime in....a

I appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness in looking out for me...but smog is NOT an issue for me. i will leave it at that. Its already been registered to me, no smog check needed....and none will EVER be needed. lol.....
