  1. My engine was leeking oil out of the Timing/cam chain tensioner screwed plug.I unscrewed it to see what was up.A whole lot of oil came out and the spring and piston.

When i re asembled it and started the engine there was a slight noise sounded like the timing chain.

Can someone confirm that the slot in the front of the piston should be verticle and that the space where the spring lives will eventually fill with oil again ??

    Thanks,Mal.

  2. I just bought a 2002 sight unseen that has rear fender lips custom made from body filler !! If i fitted turbo flares from IE,how much could i cut out of the metal/filler fenders ???

Also does anyone have a link to a blog that shows cutting/welding the rear 1/4s as described above ??

    Thanks,Mal.

  4. On internal regulated alt like yours the charge light IS needed. The current running thru the charge light also runs thru the alt and `excites` the alt to start it charging.OR as you have found out if you spin the alt fast enough it will `self excite`.

You can just rev the engine in 1st or 2nd gear after the engine is warmed up if you don`t want to replace the charge lamp.

Just check that your wiring is correct too.

  5. I know a guy here in Aus that has spent $50,000 just buying parts (all new) for his 2000Ti NK sedan. He was recently quoted 25K to do the body/paint.. When he is finished he will have a car worth maybe 5K IF he could find someone that actually NEW what sort of car it was !!!

Personally i`d be too scared to drive such a car for fear of scratching/denting it.My idea is to restore my car to reliable driving, `nice` condition.I won`t be scared to drive it.

I reckon if you can`t afford to do it ( which like me you obviously can`t ) then don`t do it !!! Fix the rust and just drive and enjoy the bloody thing. No matter how much money you spend on it someone will always have one better !!!!!

Just my opinion, not trying to upset anyone.

  6. Does anyone know of a cheap and easy or proper way to alter the camshaft timing ??

I`m sure i saw somewhere an idea where you drilled oversized the locating hole in the cam sprocket and fitted an eccentric bush.

Who makes adjustable cam sprokets of any type ??

    Thanks,Mal.

  7. Leaking brake or clutch mastre cylinder. You will need to rebuild the old one or replace with a brand new one.As these cars are 35 plus yrs old ALL the brake and clutch hydraulic parts will be about worn out and ready to leak.I`d start looking at repairing/replacing all of them, especially the brakes !!

  8. I live in western NSW.About an hour west of Dubbo.I`m restoring my 1967 2000ti NK sedan.I also have a 1967 1800 NK sedan parts car and an extremely rusty 1977 E21 320i 5 speed parts car.I have found another 1966 2000ti and am currently trying to convince the owner to sell it to me.

  9. Yep,done it a few times now.Not on a M10 though.BUT if the bores are OK without too big a wear ridge on the top, they will hone up OK.

Yes this is a low buck, bodgy method,BUT it does work.Of course it`s no substitute for a rebore, new pistons, ect But for a worn out driver with other bigger problems it will restore compression, stop oil consumption, ect.

How long it lasts depends on things i don`t know about, but i wouldn`t be reving the engine to 6000 in each gear all day !!

Try it.It`ll cost you a set of rings and a weekend of work.

  10. Pull off head and sump.Stuff rag into bottom of bore to keep dirt, ect off crank.Hone with elec drill and 3 stone hone using kerosine as lube.Buy 10 thou over rings and file fit ends to correct gap.Screw everything back together and drive.

I have done this and it works. The KEY is file fitted plus 10 rings and carefull hone job.
