  1. An alternative to the... FIRE FIRE FIRE huh huh...method of bushing removal is to pry a small screwdriver between the bushing and the metal wall, spray some Liquid Wrench or the like and press them out. Literally takes 2 minutes each.

DO you have the original ball joints on the front arms? If you don't it'll be a snap to replace them. If you do it's easier to use an air hammer to shave the rivet heads off, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GO TOO FAR and damage the area where the ball joint sits.

  2. FWIW, I have the E12 calipers on vented discs and 320 hubs (Ireland's big brake kit) and I have 320 Alpina style 13" rollers on it now w/ no problems. I put 2-3 thick washers between the hub and the wheel to space it out (just so it could roll, not to drive that way) and I'll plan on running 7-10mm spacers when I order my 13x8 or 9 Superlites. You should be ok with spacers on the front.

I'd suggest installing thick washers (one at a time) until you get no rubbing, then go 2mm past that measurement, then order your spacers (or have them made custom).

  3. Thanks for the response, John!

I can fit these 13" turbines (pic) over the front big brakes with a 7mm spacer (she's rolling on them now).

If the turbines fit, is it a safe bet that the Superlite 13x8 with a 10mm spacer would fit?

Sorry to beat the dead horse here, but I've searched the archives and scoured the posts for info....I just don't want to order a set of these and not have them work out...

  4. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2724614

Saw these 14X9 et10 Steffan BCW's for sale on the VWVortex. I have a 74 2002 with shortened/bent Tii coil-over struts w/ big brake kit (ATE calipers on vented rotors and 320i hubs) also, the big brake kit (rotor-type) in the rear w/ coil-overs.

Would 13x8 Superlites fit over the big brake kits? Was planning on running 225 R6 Hoosiers, too. I suppose I could always go the 15x8 et-4 route...more tire choices (race and street).

    Thanks,

  5. and order the model you suggested. Is the 930 any fun on the track?I thought about doing some D.E.events in mine but thought it might prove to be a handful.Thanks-again

Pelican Parts sells the Motive Euro for the same price!

The 930 is LOADS of fun on the track!! I highly recommend it! I just got her painted so I'll have to tape her up next time out. What year 930 do you have? Modifications or stock?

    Cheers

  6. I would be going, but tickets are $65 each this year. If my were to go, we'd be $260 down, and as much as I like going to the Historics, I don't think that's justifiable.

This may be an option for you. If you go the weekend before the historics (Monterey Pre-Historics, if you will) I hear it is free and the access is wide open. Maybe call Laguna Seca and ask if this is the case?

  8. If you have flares and want a pretty good sized dish/lip, check these out:

    O offset and 15x8 - SportMax wheels - $99 each

    483.jpg

Does anyone know or have experience with these wheels on the street and on the track? Are they reliable/strong? It had been stated before, at $99/wheel you get what you pay for, but I too, have Schnitzer flares and am looking for an affordable/ track wheel that won't break.

  9. After a few weeks of emailing with each other we finally worked out a way to ship a set of box flares from Puerto Rico to California (well Harry did anyway).

A big thank you to Harry for being a great guy and putting up with my constant emails ;)

The flares arrived in San Fran the other night and I can't wait to get them on! I will post some pics soon.

    Thanks Harry!

    BRI..

And now they're in SoCal...I'll be repairing them and eventually installing them on my 74 2002 track car....Thanks Again, BRI!

  10. Hi all,

I'm looking at a set of Sportmax model 002 15x8 et 0 wheels for my track car. Does anyone know if these are strong wheels suitable for racing/auto-crossing?

Can I fit these w/ 225/45ZR15 Hoosiers under Turbo flares? Will they fill up the Schnitzer box flares? Any turning issues?

Can I fit these w/ 205/50ZR15 Hoosiers under Turbo flares? Will they fill up the Schnitzer box flares? Any turning issues?

I have the shortened Tii front struts w/ -1 deg camber built in w/ the coilover kit & Bilsteins, camber plates and the big brake kit. I have coilovers and the big brake kit in the rear. I have not flared my 2002 yet. I'll be running -3.5 deg in the front and -2.25 deg in the rear.

I've searched through the archives, but haven't been able to get specific info on this particular application.

    Thanks,
