Yup, their range is 7-8.5". I'm just wondering if I can get one on a 10" ML (panasport type) wheel.

JK, Your car looks great!!
What tire sizes & makes are you running (front & rear)?
I'm planning 13x9 and 13x10 for my box flares, but tires are a concern. Hoosier makes a P225/45ZR13 that'll run on a 9" no problem, but on a 10" it may be too wide....your thoughts?
-
Yep, that was me! On my way to show I was about to play in Newport Beach. The BMW proved to be a fine instrument hauler, and freeway cruiser. I'd like to see your Porsche up close sometime.
Cool!
Send me an email, I'd like to see your 1600, too.

I'm one beach over...in Redondo.

I have 15x8 with 215/50 tires all around. They fit just snug under the flares without any rubbing.
Dang, BRI...your '02 is lookin' tuff!

Good for you, Dude! I'd have done the same thing! You truly have a piece of engineering history there! Kudos!
-
Maybe use a strong magnet to "coax" the piece out of the drain hole?
Hope you find it!

The diameter of the Hoosier 275/35R15 is 23.0".
If you could use a 13x9 wheel, you could mount a 225/45R13 on it with a 20.9" diameter.
I don't how much it would benefit your gearing though.

Al,
I wanted to ask you about your "rear seat delete" carpet kit.
Thanks,
Mike

Al,
Can you email me?
thanks,

Hey Vince, what did you get?

I did a mini write-up of this install (link)...

BUY A 'NEW ' CAR FOR "NEW' TECHNOLOGY
What about Fuel Injection? EDIS Ignition? Coil-over shocks? XM radio? Modern tire compounds?
HK, AMEN to THAT! (stock just doesn't do it for me)

torch x2 ......and 36mm VW axle nut tool x2, too.....8^) I was able to get mine off with the subframe out of the car....it was difficult but not impossible (and they were pretty rusted on there).

This sounds like the stuff.....I have to bond my flares soon.

The motor will be totally rebuilt from the bottom up. I won't be building a race motor, but will be shooting for 135-150HP and shifting in the 6-6,500 RPM range (not taking it past 7000). The aim is for a "street legal" DE/HPDE/Track Day car...not for wheel to wheel racing (for now).
I Guess I should stick with a 292 cam and 40's and ditch the plans for the 304 w/ 45's.
I've had the car for over a year now and have learned alot on this board of knowledgable folks. I'm at the point of starting the machine work on the motor and need to nail down my intake choice. From what I've read (& re-read) in the archives the 292 with 40's seems to be the best for all-around street driving and a bit of track use.
FWIW, I've got the big brakes front & rear, schnitzer box flares, urethane, rear coilovers, cambered/collared/cut Tii struts w/ Bilstein sport inserts, camber plates, IE F/R ARB's, 3.64:1 LSD diff and a stock 4 speed (for now).
Thanks for the insight, and again, sorry for the hijack..... 8^)
-
Is it true (if you're using side drafts) that a 292 cam should use 40's while if you have a 304 cam you should use 45's? I'm planning ~9.5:1 and have a set of Solex 40's (the Italian ones), but was seriously thinking of using the 304 cam. I don't really want to spring for 45's. Sorry for hijacking....... 8^)

Good Luck, Pedro!

Run away, fast!
Scrape your 76 together and search this forum and the web for Seattle area 2002 shops. Explain what you've got and go from there.
If you stay with this shop, you are getting screwed, involuntarily.
Nobody on this forum was born a mechanic, but with time and interest in these (and other) cars, most became proficient enough to do their own maintenence. Clutch jobs on manual tranmissions are as simple as they get. On a 2002, they're even simpler. An exhuast "system" fabrication and installation for and expert should only take about an hour and cost about $300-tops ($200 for parts and $100 for labor).
Perhaps some Seattle-based '02er could school you and your son on the clutch job. You could buy a used 4-speed in good-working-order for ~$100. Remember, if you do it yourself...safety first!
You CAN do this yourself! I hear having a teenager is ALOT tougher than working on '02s!!
Good Luck,
-
Thank you for the leads!!

If so, can ANYBODY let me know?!!? Experiences? Good, Bad, otherwise?
I'm going blind searching the archives for SoCal machine shops that DON'T want to sell me everything under the sun and that DO swear that their motors will put out 175-190 HP!
All I want to do is build a 135-150HP motor running 9.5 or 10:1 max w/dual 40's, a 292 or 304 cam and a header. I want to assemble it myself. Am I crazy, is this really that complicated? Do I really have to shell out $5000 for what I want?
GOSH!!
-
$3000, huh? Did you look in the trunk for a body? 8^)
Great find!

Can you email me? (use the email button above) I have most of the waistline trim pieces.
Thanks,
To modify or not.... or is it to street race or not???

I'm not saying that Police are "brilliant", but.....I disagree with the cruel and unusual punishment opinion you have.
I've been to my share of vehicle vs. pedestrian collision investigations. The absolute devistation is astounding at these crime scenes.
I don't think that crushing street racer's cars is more cruel than the pedestrian being brutally cut in two by the racer's car @ 120MPH.
I'm not saying I'm right, I just have a different opinion.
I don't street race (although as a teenager, I did in my 67 Chevelle) I race at the track, where everyone is on the same page safety-wise. Fees for road racing (Willow Springs and Streets of Willow) are as low as $145 a day (8-5pm) with PLENTY of track time. I think Drag Strip races (at night) are cheaper than that. Bottom line, it's a choice, always.
Cops will always have a reason to pull you over, and if they want to "do you" they have all the rules written in their favor. I really hate that. It's like we're part of the herd of prey, just trying to avoid the predator....and no, I'm not a cop.
Cheers,
