  1. LOL - my car (4081) must have been made late in the day on 5/30. Wonder where the other ones ended up (4082 and 4083)?

    Hey Jim,

Been following this thread religiously hoping that 4082, 4083 or 4085  would report in. Still waiting (and still hoping).

PS. Have made some noticeable upgrades this winter. Unveiling at the Vintage (unless I bring the coupe, into which a new engine is being installed as we speak. Stay tuned...)

  2. Didn't Chevettes come with a toy spare?  If so, since Chevettes used the same 5jx13 wheel as a 2002 (even made by Lemmertz) their toy spares should have the correct offset and of course the proper bolt pattern...

Do you think there are any Chevettes left? Better luck finding a yeti...

  3. Just installed a set from Walloth & Nesch.  Seem to fit and be functioning fine.  No longer have the shimmy upon braking.  Not cheap, but better than trying to stop the car with warped rotors every time.

  4. Hi Mac,

Are you still looking for lenses?  I have a set (orange centers) with matching, perfectly circular melt spots. Just bought a new lenses but haven't installed them yet.  Was waiting for winter to set in to swap out the lenses, but can get to it sooner rather than later if you're still without a set. Let me know if you are still in need and I'll take send pics.

  5. Whatever you do, do NOT remove the deer hair from the window, or anywhere else on the car.

Here's the deal:  Hitting a deer is considered an "act of God" by insurance companies.  You will not be charged with an "at fault" event and you typically will not need to pay your collision deductible (as this is not considered a collision as if you hit another vehicle).  But for you to luck out in this way, the adjuster needs to find some evidence that an animal was involved.  So cherish the hair.

That's the upside.  The downside is that I'm guessing you do not have an agreed-value policy.  This allows the insurer to to decide unilaterally what they think your car is worth.  In turn,  you're at risk of  a low evaluation leading the insurer to total your car.  Of course, you could still collect your money, buy the "wreck" back and rebuild it.  Only drawback is that you'll have a salvage title.  But there are lots of quality 2002's out there with similar titles.

    Stay calm.  Good luck!

  6. Price:: 100

    Location: : Doylestown, PA

For Sale is one of the "BMW Profiles" books produced by Mobile Traditions (before they became BMW Classic): "The BMW 02 Series: The Cult Car."  Long out of print and very hard to find.

In very, very good condition. Includes the reduced-size 2002 Turbo brochure that came in the back pocket but so often seems to disappear.

Would make a killer Holiday gift (or self-gift)!

$100 includes careful packing and shipping.

  7. Years ago, I noticed that the taillight lens on my '73 tii had small "melt holes" where, I assume, the previous owner had used too big/ too hot a bulb.  Wasn't awful and I had bigger fish to fry in my clean-up, fix-up process.  But the cost of BMW parts only goes in one direction, so I figured I'd buy a set of replacement lens while they were still available and did not require a second mortgage.  Did just that 3 or four years ago. Glanced in the box to confirm two tissue-wrapped lens and two gaskets.  Put the box on the shelf until the "right time."

Taking the tii to a local show - in New Hope, PA - on Sunday and decided now was the time to install the clean, new lens.  Imagine my surprise - not to mention disappointment - when I unfolded the tissue around the lens and discovered they have RED centers instead of the orange centers the car came with.

Now all I can see is those friggin' melted spots.   And, of course, lens of any color are NLA. Thanks Real OEM. Thanks BMW.

Can anybody help a brother out?

  8. Looking for a set of round taillight lens with orange centers for my '73 tii. Need to be in very good to near-perfect condition.  Bought a set new from BMW several years ago.  Went to put them on and discovered they have red centers. Argh!!!!

Will purchase your lens or will swap for my new-in-the box red-center lens.  Pix upon request to larryschwarzatcomcastdotnet

  9. Hi all!

Bought a vintage Nardi wheel on fleabay for use in my E9.  Text claimed the wheel had been removed from a 2002, but all of this seller's ads (for BMW wheels) say the same thing.  The hub fit my E9 (that is, the splines were correct) but the horn didn't work.  Bought a correct E9 hub so immediate problem has been solved.

Now to the mystery: what vehicle does this vintage hub fit?  Is this from a '02?  Any insight would be appreciated.
