jumping to another page

Recommended Posts

Am I missing it a simple way?

I am trying to jump to a page based on a certain date. I am looking for a post and I remeber the date but not the title or the name of the poster. Is there shortcut way or do I have to progress page by page till I get there? It can take a while if I am going back 30 or 40 pages. (or 200.)

Thanks.

Pierre

The board uses URL's that are fairly transparent. For instance, this is the URL for a page of this subforum:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewforum/f,7/topicdays,0/start,200/

The last section, "/start,200/" is where it tells it what thread to start the page list (this was page 5 of 11 in this section, 45 threads per page). So, if you know you want to go back at least 150 threads, you can add 150 to the start number, which will give you

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewforum/f,7/topicdays,0/start,350/

voila! Page 8!

Thank you for your response. While this is a quicker way than scrolling page by page, it's still a shot in the dark. If I wanted to find posts of August 13th, I can try page 15 (I guess try around 600) and see where I land. I could have tried 6000 too. How far back is August 13?) Then go from there depending how close I got, and guess how far further up or down I should try for my next attempt and try again further forward or back till I hit it. It feels as if I'm playing battleship, or wheel of fortune or hangman.

I tried entering the date on the search and that did not work either. I get a bunch of results that won't match. And the result page does not show the original post date. It only shows the last post date on each thread. Yes it does give me a ballpark to shoot for but I still end up trying different posts and hope to get lucky.

I thought that maybe there was a straighforward way to enter a date and BAM, you're there and I could't find it. Maybe there isn't.

I do appreciate your reply.

Off-topic. If you're in Santa Barbara, you should come to one of our drives in Ventura. Next drive is the Turkey Run on November 29th. Watch the board for details and updates.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
