Prepping leather upholstery for dying?

Recommended Posts

I've just acquired a pair on nice looking 6 series bucket seats and want to dye them black (currently faun).

I know Esty is a bit of an expert when it comes to this, so I'm throwing it out to her...

What is the best way to prep the leather to take the dye? Most dyes suggest using wax and grease remover (Prepsol) to clean the surface to ensure the dye sticks, but given the age of the leather, I'm concerned about damaging/drying out the leather. Any other suggestions.

Any suggestions would be very welcomed!
