Nose attachment

Recommended Posts

I forgot my camera so I do not have pix.

I was wondering if anyone out there has good photos of the upper attachments of the nose assembly.

Some rotten P.O./body hack came up with a "custom" attachment system for the nose panel on the '75 and I want to fab it back to original.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

JB

It should be overlapped at the top like this (not welded yet in this photo):

When done, there should also be a mig weld in the corner northwest of that sheet metal screw thats holding this piece on temporarily.

There should be no tack welds on the edge of this piece-it should be spot welded in the middle. Plug welds placed there, then ground down also work well.

This is a car where we repaired the leading edge of the inner fender prior to fitting the new nose panel, it had been through the mill a couple times and the edge was trashed due to some over zealous dope fiend using an air chisel to separate the welds.

And, if you want to get really fancy remove the snorkle and weld a piece over the hole, like I did... That's if you're not going to use it.

Color in this picture looks a bit off as it was taken in bright sunlight.

Mr MacGinn,

I live in awe of your work and thank you for answering my post.

The problem I have is where the nose meets the "wheelhouse" as you can see in the pix.

I am going to replace the leading edge as you did but I think I am going to add a little less metal.
