Bending the turn signal stalk away from the steering wheel?

The Momo steering wheel offers little room between itself and the turn signal stalk on my 72tii. I have lived with the situation for 15 years without incident. Ham fisted friend gets his fingers jammed between the wheel and the stalk on the first and ONLY time he drives the vehicle. Can the stalk be safetly bent forward of the wheel?

I like the position of the wheel and do not wish to shim it.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Yes you can bend them. You must grip the inside (base) of stalk firmly and allow no movement of the switch body. I used large channel lock plier to hold base, and no tool on the knob end to bend. The switch is brittle plastic and will break with very little pressure. Bend the metal stalk, but no stress on plastic switch body. Good luck and hope you like the results as much as I like my Moto-Lita.
